Random thoughts while wondering whether a possible St. Louis-Cincinnati National League Championship Series would have Chicago Cubs fans rooting against both teams:
* If it’s any consolation to Cubs fans (and the guess here is that it is not), the Washington Nationals will be playing their first home postseason game since 1933 on Wednesday (Oct. 10). At least the Cubs have been in the postseason more often than that — even if the last World Series appearance was 1945. You don’t think that will have Cubs fans giddy? Probably not.
* If it’s any consolation to White Sox fans (and the guess here is that it is not), the Detroit Tigers — to whom the Sox were runner-up in the American League Central this season — have a 2-0 lead in their American League Division Series against Oakland and are on the cusp of advancing to the AL Championship Series. You don’t think that’s some solace for Sox fans? Probably not.
* Something says the Chicago Bulls’ exhibition opener Tuesday (Oct. 9) against the Memphis Grizzlies will feature a cohesive squad that has been working hard in practice. And, with a little luck, the video staff at elliottharris.com will provide evidence with footage of the first effort of the 2012-13 Luvabulls.
Speaking of the Bulls, here is newcomer Marco Belinelli from media day:
Is it too late to offer a prediction on the Monday night game between the Houston Texans and New York Jets? Your hunmble correspondent was going to pick the Texans to prevail. Sure. Honest. Really. Because Playboy Playmate Jaime Edmondson is vacationing and didn’t provide Week 5 picks and pics. In her place, your humble correspondent (hey, that’s me!) ran selections on Sunday — and went 10-2 with one of the 10 being Jaime’s Dolphins for whom she once was a cheerleader.
But circumstances beyond my control having to do with computer repair prevented picking the Monday night game before kickoff. Or even before halftime. OK, before the game was over.
In an effort to be fair, we won’t count the Texans’ triumph and will settle for a 10-2 mark. The only teams not to do as predicted were the Carolina Panthers (who lost to the Seattle Seahawks) and the Green Bay Packers (who lost to the Indianapolis Colts).
Here’s hoping Jaime returns in time to make Week 6 predictions. About the only prediction that yours truly is willing to offer is the Chicago Bears won’t lose — because they have Week 6 off.
Another day, another Loop Rock Girl hopeful. Today we have Brittney. Voting runs through Friday (Oct. 12) to cut the Flirty 30 down to a Sweet 16. Voting is being conducted at wlup.com.
You never can have enough video of college marching bands, can you? Here is Ohio State’s:
