Swiss Miss Alert: Hawks’ Kane Heading Your Way

October 24, 2012 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: For those who are hockey fans (and, yes, we know you’re out there — even without an NHL season, thanks to the owners’ lockout of players), Patrick Kane has become the latest member of the Chicago Blackhawks to be going abroad (one word, not two, Patrick). He has agreed to play for EHC Biel in the Swiss League. “Looking forward to the experience,” Kane tweeted. Other Hawks set to play in Europe: Bryan Bickell, Michael Frolik, Michal Rozsival and Viktor Stalberg. Hawks domination, one continent at a time. Or conquests of some sort for fun-loving Kane.

Ashley Lobo shows some skills from her days with the Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew.

* Speaking of Kane, he will play some hockey before departing. He is to participate in a “Champs for Charity” game Friday (Oct. 26) at 7:30 p.m. at Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Among other Hawks-related players scheduled to participate in the game that will benefit the Ronald McDonald House: Craig Anderson, Troy Brouwer, Adam Burish, Brian Campbell, Jake Dowell, Andrew Ladd, Jim Vandermeer, Kris Versteeg and James Wisniewski. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. And if all this hockey coverage seems merely an excuse to run a photo of a Blackhawks Ice Crew member (past and/or present), your point is what exactly?

* Some marriages just don’t look like they’re going to work from the beginning. And so it was with Ozzie Guillen and the Miami Marlins. The team fired him Tuesday (Oct. 23) after one season. A decision no doubt to cut the team’s losses after 93 of them on the field in 2012. The Marlins still owe the former Chicago White Sox skipper $7.5 million. Which might help explain his Twitter message: In life there are worst things and i have experinced them i have lived through bad moments and i will get through this with support. And, of course, with the money owed him.

No such thing as too many photos of former Blackhawks Ice Crew member Ashley Lobo.

* Like numerous managers before him, Guillen probably could land a television gig. Well, provided that the folks who would hire him also have the capability to provide subtitles. Not taking a shot at his language skills. But even sometimes when you understand him, it’s tough to understand him — if you understand what I’m sayin’.

* Speaking of the White Sox, congratulations to Sox slugger Adam Dunn for winning Sporting News’ American League Comeback Player of the Year. It’s quite an honor. Well, other than it usually means the season before people were saying, “Go away!”

* Okahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant did not play in the team’s 94-89 loss to the Chicago Bulls. Before Tuesday’s game, he said Bulls guard Derrick Rose — recuperating from offseason anterior-cruciate ligament surgery — will come back stronger and better than ever. Durant is not the first to make that observation. If that’s the case, you’d think more players would want to have such an injury and subsequent surgery so they could be better, too. No?

* Speaking of the Bulls, Wednesday (Oct. 24) is “Bulls Day” at Comcast SportsNet. Scheduled to make in-studio appearances are players Carlos Boozer, Rip Hamilton, Taj Gibson, Nate Robinson, Jimmy Butler, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson, Benny the Bull and — last but not least — the Luvabulls. Fans also can go to CSNChicago.com for details on how to win four tickets to the season opener on Oct. 31 against Sacramento at the United Center. The winner is to be announced on the 10 p.m. “SportsNet Central” show. At 7 p.m., CSN also will show the Bulls-Milwaukee Bucks game from March 7 in wich Joakim Noah had a double-double, and Rose scored 30 — including a game-winning buzzer-beater. A Bulls season preview will be shown at 9:30 p.m. CSNChicago.com also will have content, including a live Q&A with center Nazr Mohammed.

Back by popular demand, more of Mike Neumann and figure competitor Amy Lescher (not necessarily in that order of demand — well, other than perhaps from Mike):

In case you missed former football star Emmitt Smith on Tuesday’s “Dancing With the Stars” (or if you want to see an encore performance), here you go:

And another version of Gangnam Style. Never too many of these:
