The Chicago Bulls are in something of a jam. Well, as far as Luol Deng’s left thumb is concerned. There will be cause for concern if Deng is unable to play Saturday (Nov. 10) against Minnesota at the United Center.
Deng injured his thumb Thursday (Nov. 8) in a 97-91 loss to the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder in which had a game-high 27 points. That total is greater than any he had last season and the most since he scored 27 against Atlanta on March 22, 2011.
Deng also had the unenviable task of trying to stop Thunder star Kevin Durant in the game’s closing minute when Durant hit two 17-foot jumpers to thwart a Bulls comeback. Durant led the Thunder with 24 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
“[Durant] hit some really tough shots,” said Bulls center Joakim Noah, who had a game-high 13 rebounds and team-high six assists. “It’s tough because we thought we had chances to win the game.”
Similarly painful was Deng’s injury.
“I jammed my thumb,” hw said of the fourth-quarter injury. “Just got to ice it, treat it.”
The Thunder outscored the Bulls 31-19 in the final quarter.
“They are hard to guard,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. “They made some tough plays and closed it out.”
The funeral for former Bulls broadcaster Jim Durham will be Tuesday (Nov. 13) at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St. in Chicago. In leiu of flowers, the family is asking donations in his memory be made to either the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, the V Foundation or Chicago Bulls Charities. Anyone wishing to donate to the Red Cross is encouraged to consider doing so via jerseyshorerelief.com.

Another stellar effort by the cast and crew of “Sports & Torts” is in the books. Or wherever the fine folks at Talkzone.com put the show — co-hosted by David Spada and Elliott Harris — once it has aired. The latest episode of the highly acclaimed program (well, it certainly is regarded that way in the Spada and Harris households) actually is available on podcast. The Nov. 8 show features former Green Bay Packers stars Dave Robinson and Herb Adderley. They discuss their new book Lombardi’s Left Side , among other topics, in an interesting interview session.
