Viagra as a performance enhancer? On the football field? You mean during games? Hard to believe. Gives new meaning to “stiff competition” among NFL teams.
The topic arose — if you’ll pardon the verb — Wednesday (Nov. 28) when Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall was talking about Seattle Seahawks cornerbacks Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman, who have been suspended because of testing positive for Adderall, which is used to treat attention deficit disorder. The Bears play the Seahawks Sunday at Solider Field. Browner and Sherman have appealed the suspensions. No word whether Viagra use appeals to them.
“It is such a competitive league, guys try anything just to get that edge,” Marshall said. “I’m fortunate enough to be blessed with size and some smarts to give me my edge. But some guys, they’ll do whatever they can to get an edge I’ve heard of some crazy stories. I’ve heard guys using like Viagra. Seriously. Because the blood is supposedly thin, some crazy stuff. So, you know, it’s kind of scary with some of these chemicals that are in some of these things. … Anytime you take anything over the counter — if you don’t approve it with your training room, you can get popped that quick. You know, it doesn’t matter if it’s Dayquil, Nyquil, any type of cough medicine. Even Hall’s.”
A spokesman for Pfizer, which produces Viagra, told TMZ that Viagra should be used as “indicated solely for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. … Pfizer has not examined the safety of Viagra in men without ED and does not promote or encourage the use of Viagra for any use but the treatment of ED.”
On Thursday, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs said of Viagra being used for football benefits: “Hey, I heard about that. I guess boners … there’s going to be a lot of dangerous boners on the field, I guess. I don’t know, I usually do the tackling, but apparently maybe some offensive guys they’re getting boners. I’m gonna leave that one.”
A hands-off policy does seem best. Certainly with regard to action on the football field.
Speaking of the Bulls (OK, even if we weren’t), here is video of the halftime entertainment at the Bulls-Dallas Mavericks game on Nov. 28. The Limbo Queen is the featured performer, and she is quite good:
Another episode of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. The highly acclaimed (certainly in the Spada and Harris households, as well as reporetedly elsewhere) program of Nov. 28 featured actress/singer Marla Gibbs, Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti and former Chicago Luvabulls dancer Kelly Wilson who is a recent first-time participant in a bikini competition (she brought home a trophy for finishing second).
The program is live Thursdays at noon on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time and available on podcast. You can access the show by clicking here.
About right here is where the videos — gratuitous and otherwise — tend to end up on a daily basis.
In wandering around Facebook In doing in-depth research for providing videos for this part of the program, the video-review board of elliottharris.com happened across footage suggested by friend/photographer GW Burns of Joelle Murphy. Even though the video is not recent, it still is viewing-worthy. Of course, you can make that assessment for yourself:
There always is room around here for most things involving Victoria’s Secret. Particularly the lovely ladies involved with the brand. Today we are happy to feature model Doutzen Kroes, who will be part of the Dec. 4 Victoria’s Secret fashion show on CBS:
This is about as close to providing Grey Cup (Canadian Football League’s Super Bowl) coverage as you will find around here:
As long as we’re enjoying a musical interlude, here is some more:
