Ponder This: Packers’ Rodgers Has Streak vs. Bears

December 11, 2012 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while pondering whether Christian Ponder of the Minnesota Vikings is the worst quarterback in the NFL, as Fox TV analyst Jimmy Johnson suggested Sunday — and if so, what must the after-effects be for the Chicago Bears after losing to a team quarterbacked by him:

Co-captain Kafi is today’s Chicago Luvabulls lovely.

* Aaron Rodgers is no Christian Ponder. Meaning, of course, the Bears defense will rise to the occasion Sunday at Soldier Field, when the Green Bay Packers visit with a Bears loss giving the Packers the NFC North title. Of course, it’s unclear how the defense might do that, but those are details to be worked out between now and the end of Sunday’s game.

* Speaking of Rodgers, he has helped the Packers to five consecutive victories over the Bears (including one in the postseason). In case Bears fans weren’t feeling pessimistic enough after losing to the Vikings.

* Speaking of streaks, the Chicago Bulls have won a season-best three games in a row. Which might be an indication that it hasn’t been the best of seasons. The Bulls have won five of their last six, heading into their game Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers at the United Center. This could be as close to optimistic as Bulls fans might be until Derrick Rose returns — whenever that might be.

* Speaking of the Bulls, the team’s page on the Internet has started providing profiles (and videos and photos) of the members of the Chicago Luvabulls dance team. Today we have co-captain Kafi. To view her video, you can click here.

* Speaking of impressive figures (of another variety), the White Sox announced a three-year, $12 million agreement with utility infielder Jeff Keppinger. He had an American League-leading .376 batting average (44-for-117) against left-handed pitching. Maybe manager Robin Ventura can find a way to have opponents use more left-handers in 2013.

* Speaking of contract, the Los Angeles Dodgers have become the New York Yankees of the West by signing pitcher Zack Greinke to a six-year contract for a reported $147 million. Meaning there now are teams on both coasts with massive television contracts that allow them to overpay for players. Not meaning any other teams should act similarly — no matter how much agents and players might want.
