Models for Success: Kate Upton, Not Bulls

There are busts, and there are busts. Today we will consider some of them. As in the Chicago Bulls’ performance Monday (Feb. 11) against the San Antonio Spurs at the United Center. And as in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

With Tim Duncan inactive and Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Stephen Jackson not playing, you would have thought the Bulls would have had a chance against the Spurs. And you would have been wrong. The Spurs won 103-89 despite being outrebounded 49-26. A more relevant statistic was turnovers: Bulls 19, Spurs 8 — with San Antonio turning the Bulls’ turnovers into 29 points.

“When we turn over the ball, we have a hard time winning,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. We just took good care of the ball tonight.”

“They are going to make you pay for your mistakes,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said.

“I don’t think we took them for granted,” Bulls reserve forward Taj Gibson said. “I just think they came out and played harder than us.”

Someone mentioned something about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue? Ah, yes. Ten models from the 2013 edition were on Monday night’s “Late Show With David Letterman” and delivered the “Top Ten” list. There also was the unveiling of the cover on a Times Square billboard.

Of course, some of the excitement was gone with the cover having been revealed a few days earlier. Kate Upton indeed is on the cover for the second consecutive year.

Upton is scheduled to be on Tuesday’s show with Letterman, so there likely will be more SI stuff in this space on Wednesday.
