Noah Way! Another Lost Cause for Bulls

March 19, 2013 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while wondering why there seems to be such objection to objectivity. As in the goaltending call on Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah in overtime on what would have been a likely game-winning basket with 1.7 secons left in what ultimatelty became a 119-118 Denver victory. TV replays seemed to show he interfered with the shot by teammate Marco Belinelli. Yet you would have had a difficult time convincing Comcast SportsNet’s Stacey King and postgame analyst Kendall Gill. Not to mention just about any Bulls fan.

The Chicago Luvabulls had their St. Patty’s attire for Monday’s game.

* Any complaints about the ruling against Noah should be that the referees did not call his tip-in goaltending until after they reviewed it. Except you don’t review plays on which a call isn’t made. And, yes, it certainly looked like offensive basket interference by Denver’s Kosta Koufos in overtime. No call. Which meant it was a bad call.

* Even more incredible than the turn of events involving Noah’s basket-turned-no basket was how Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau managed to avoid being called for a technical foul.

* For some of us who decided not to go to the Bulls game, the regret wasn’t so much the overtime battle (which certainly appeared entertaining on TV) as it was missing out on the Luvabulls dance team in St. Patrick’s Day garb (which surely was equally entertaining, although generally not on TV).

* The Miami Heat defeated the host Boston Celtics 105-103 to run their winning streak to 23 games. LeBron James and Co. need 11 more victories to set the all-time NBA record. The Bulls can stop them on March 27 at the United Center. OK, let’s rephrase that: The Bulls play the Heat on March 27 at the United Center. Even having a healthy Derrick Rose in the lineup might not be enough. Although stranger things have happened.

* Golfer Tiger Woods and skier Lindsey Vonn have announced they are dating. “I guess it wasn’t a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods,” she said on her Facebook page. “Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy.” Woods and Vonn said they want the rest of their relationship to be private — after releasing four photos of the two together. And the chances of the paparazzi honoring that request are about the same as Vonn winning the Masters golf tournament.

Meanwhile, Tiger’s former wife Elin Nordegren is in the news, too:

These Luvabulls just might be a distraction from making any NCAA picks.

As the NCAA basketball tournament draws nears first-round games Thursday (March 21), Nate Silver has calculated which teams have the best chance of taking home the championship trophy. His top picks to prevail:
1. Louisville 22.7%
2. Indiana 19.6%
3. Florida 12.7%
4. Kansas 7.5%
5. Gonzaga 6.1%

For those who might have followed Silver’s forecasting during the 2012 elections, there is no red state/blue state breakdowns. Maybe that will come later in the week. Or maybe not at all. Most likely not at all. In fact, the mathematical calculating department at elliottharris.com (OK, so there really isn’t one, but humor me, OK?) places the likelihood of Silver providing any such breakdown before the start of the tournament at 0.1 percent.
