Wondering About Bulls’ Perfect Preseason Mark

October 26, 2013 @ No Comments

Weekend wondering: With the Chicago Bulls concluding their exhibition schedule with a 94-89 victory against the visiting Denver Nuggets on Friday, they finish with an 8-0 record. Does that mean for the Bulls’ home opener Oct. 31 that commissioner David Stern will show up to award the NBA Preseason Championship trophy? Or will it merely be someone in a David Stern Halloween costume?

* Is it really true there is no such thing as the NBA Preseason Championship trophy? Really? Shouldn’t there be if the Bulls are going to go to the trouble of winning all of their exhibition games?

* Speaking of the Bulls (or, in this case, a former Bull), will the performance by Nuggets guard Nate Robinson – a fan favorite last season before departing via free agency — make an impression on those folks who were clamoring for the club to keep him? Or is a night such as Friday when he played 25 minutes off the bench, went scoreless (0-for-5 from the field) and committed four turnovers merely an indication of the magic that Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is capable of in getting the most from his players?

* Speaking of Thibodeau, will he be able to exercise more restraint in limiting starters’ minutes during the regular season than he has shown in the past?

* Speaking of starters’ minutes, will fans and media alike question the presence of Derrick Rose on the floor late in the game in blowouts? Or should we all take a collective deep breath and realize any player can suffer an injury at any time and Thibodeau might have a legitimate reason for playing Rose?

* Speaking of injuries, is it too soon to wonder whether Joakim Noah (groin) will be healthy for the postseason? He didn’t play Friday — meaning he has to be among the preseason leaders in fewest minutes played by a starter, right?

* Speaking of Rose (well, we were a couple of paragraphs ago), would Bulls fans be unhappy if his scoring was down but he led the league in assists? And if Rose were to be among the league’s assist leaders, would that mean his teammates were shooting better from the field or Rose simply was finding them for dunks?
