Bears Coordinator Kromer Definitely Offensive

December 12, 2014 @ No Comments

So how do the Bears take away some of the media attention from the Cubs’ and White Sox’ wheeling and dealing at baseball’s Winter Meetings? By having a Chicago Tribune report that offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer apologized (with tears) to the offense for being the source of anonymous negative statements about quarterback Jay Cutler. Nicely done, Bears. Well, nicely done provided that you wanted a new offensive coordinator and/or head coach and/or quarterback for 2015.

* If it’s any consolation to Bears fans or anyone else (and the guess here is that it is not), Kromer is not the first person whom Cutler has driven to tears.

* “I think it’s still kind of a thing that players are trying to wrap their arms around a little bit,” Tribune reporter Brad Biggs told Comcast SportsNet in the early hours of Friday (meaning a little after midnight). “When Kromer let them know that he was behind some of the stuff that had come out on NFL Network, they were stunned, shocked a little bit, and clearly it presents an issue for at least Jay Cutler and the coaching staff.” As if there weren’t enough issues for the 5-8 Bears.

* OK, let’s say the Bears offense wraps its arms around the Kromer saga. Does that mean there will be a 15-yard penalty to go along with that?

* Of all the overthrows that Cutler has made in his NFL career, he actually might receive some credit for helping overthrow his offensive coordinator (if not the entire coaching staff).

* On the bright (?) side, the Kromer saga will provide broadcasters with something to talk about during “Monday Night Football” when New Orleans visits Soldier Field — well, other than the dismal 2014 performances of the two teams on the field.

* An anagram for Aaron Kromer is “an error amok.” “Amok” as in “running amok.” Which would be more running than the Bears have demonstrated in recent weeks with Matt Forte and the team’s ground game.

* If the whole Kromer situation doesn’t cause a problem for coach Marc Trestman (as if he doesn’t have enough already?), then Bears fans should be resigned to having him around for the duration of his contract.

* If the whole Kromer situation doesn’t cause a problem for Bears management regarding Cutler, then Bears fans should be resigned to having him around for the duration of his contract. Unless, you are of the persuasion that Bears fans should be rejoicing about having him around for all that time.
