Wondering how long new Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer will last on the job before deciding to give up his coveted position to spend more time with family. Also wondering whose family it will be this time. Because his own family has to be skeptical about that spending time with family thing.
* So now that Meyer and Bob Davie are leaving their roles as ESPN college football analysts to roam the sidelines once again, which fired coaches will replace them for the worldwide leader in hiring ex-coaches/managers?
* Speaking of Meyer, now that Illinois has fired Ron Zook, maybe the Illini can find a lesser version of Meyer. Yes, it’s time to look for a Suburban Meyer.
* All that gnashing of teeth by Chicago media and fans about the Bears’ loss Sunday at Oakland seems a bit much — unless you actually thought the Bears would win on the road with Caleb Hanie at quarterback. Which apparently many in the media believed — a result perhaps of Bears Kool-Aid being available to the media at Halas Hall?
* Speaking of Hanie, there has been much media talk that he will be better in his second NFL start Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field. By that thinking, wouldn’t every player improve every week? Or only the players on your team? About the only way Hanie improves is by playing a team that is not as good as the Raiders. Cue the Chiefs.
* The New Orleans Saints scored a 49-24 Monday Night Football over the New York Giants. It would seem the Giants had tryptophan in their water bottles, no? Well, that one explanation for why they played like turkeys.
For those who follow such things (and the guess here is that at least a few in this audience actually do), the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be on television Tuesday night on CBS.
As a public service (OK, in hopes of this site winning the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service or the cyberspace equivalent), here is some video to whet the appetite — as if any whetting is needed:
