Comcast SportsNet will televise the opening ceremonies of the Cubs Convention on Friday at 5 p.m. The big question is whether pitcher Kerry Wood will be there. The fan favorite is a free agent after playing last season at a below-market $1.5 million contract. There is speculation he will sign before Friday’s festivities. There also has been speculation that he won’t. That pretty much covers all the bases — or pitching mounds, if you prefer.
One thing seems almost certain: The Wood offseason saga will be the most drama the Cubs have in 2012.
Speaking of Wood, he is scheduled to be one of the honorees at the 24th annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards presented by Navistar to benefit the March of Dimes. The dinner event, which has raised almost $8 million for the March of Dimes, will be held Feb. 13 from 5–9 p.m. at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, 301 E. North Water St. Media personality Steve Dahl once again will emcee.
This year’s honorees are Wood (Cubs), Carlos Boozer (Bulls), Corey Crawford (Blackhawks), Alexei Ramirez (White Sox), Logan Pause (Fire) and Earl Bennett (Bears). Blackhawks Hall of Famer Tony Esposito will receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award.” “Inspirational Athlete” honors go to is 16-year-old Tywaun Crain, who was bornn with cerebral palsy but has persevered as an athlete and student.
The event will feature a silent auction. Details of the evening are available at CSNChicago.com. The awards ceremony is to be televised live at 7:30 p.m. Tickets ($350 per person) and sponsorships are available. Information and tickets are availale by phoning Rebecca Grant at (312) 596-4721 or visiting CSNChicago.com.
All is well with Leola Bell. How could it not be for the February Playboy Playmate who is scheduled to be on Thursday’s “Sports & Torts” with David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon (Chicago time) on talkzone.com.

If April Rose is going to post videos five times a week, then we will be more than happy to run them. Hey, that’s what friends are for.
Speaking of friends, Brook Jay (founder and CMO of All Terrain, Inc.) has posted an interview with Rocky and Danny Wirtz of Wirtz Beverage and Chicago Blackhawks fame. It can be found at allterrainjohnny.com.
For those of you who have been wondering about a lack of hockey coverage around here, there probably would be more if the Blackhawks had a more lenient media policy toward non-traditional media types (such as various and sundry Internet folks like yours truly) and credentialed them for games. On the bright side, some of us now have a little more free time than we used to when we went to the games.
Let the record show the editorial staff at elliottharris.com does miss quality time with the Blackhawks Ice Crew and does not miss the aroma of the Hawks locker room.
OK, even the editorial staff at elliottharris.com will admit the following video has very little to do with sports. Except for the fact that lovely Lariyah Daniels is in it. A favorite around here, Lariyah has become a competitive bikini contest participant. Which means that is close enough to merit inclusion (and even if it were not, she still would be here).
Lariyah’s first commercial from a couple of years ago was posted on YouTube. Thank you, YouTube and Lariyah (not in that order of importance around here):
