Well, Wisconsin Still Has Miss America 2012

January 16, 2012 @ No Comments

Monday meanderings: As if Chicago Bears fans don’t already have enough consolation by the mere fact that the Green Bay Packers lost Sunday to the New York Giants, let the record show the Packers posted as many postseason victories for the 2011 campaign as did the Bears. Of course, Green Bay did have a bye week and did make the playofs, but that’s little comfort to Packer backers and little concern to Bears fans who can focus on Green Bay’s season-ending loss.

You were expecting Eli Manning or Aaron Rodgers? Sorry to disappoint and run a Victoria's Secret model instead.

* Funny how a 15-1 regular season can be more disappointing than an 8-8 one. OK, maybe not funny for Packers fans.

* Even tough the Packers’ official offseason will have fewer days than teams that did not make the playoffs, you have to think it’s going to feel a lot longer for those who were unable to defeat the Giants.

* It is quite a scene when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers becomes erring Rodgers. Somebody picked a bad day to have an off day. Guess any trips to Disney World for him this year will have to come out of his own pocket. Somewhere there’s a punch line about pocket protection, but you can create your own.

Miss America Laura Kaeppeler won't have to worry about rooting for the Packers in the Super Bowl next month.

* Guessing that the Packers’ loss means newly crowned Miss America Laura Kaeppeler (ala Miss Wisconsin from Kenosha) won’t be wearing any cheesehead tiaras any time soon.

* The Cubs are going to put a video board in the right-field stands. Some fans are upset about the move that will cut down the number of rows from six to three. They might feel less upset if the Cubs had a right fielder whou could cut down a runner going from first to third.

* The Cubs Convention had one corncerning feature: increased prices for booths, which translated into fewer booths. Then again, it meant more room to move around without being squashed amid a sea of humanity. Fans can only hope their ease of maneuverability and the Cubs ease of moving up in the standings are approximately the same. Something says they won’t be — certainly not in 2012.

* Honoring Martin Luther King by playing some NBA afternoon games will continue to seem odd.

* Speaking of having NBA contests on the federal holiday that honors the civil-rights leader, Bulls guard Derrick Rose chats about a variety of topics, including playing a game on Martin Luther King Day in Memphis, Tenn.:
