Midweek musings: After Carlos Boozer scored 31 points in the Chicago Bulls’ 118-97 victory Tuesday against Phoenix, Suns forward Grant Hill said of his fellow former Duke standout, “Boozer looked like a Dukie out there.” Meanwhile the Suns looked defenseless. You could say they played matador defense, but something says the Bulls’ Matador dance team might take exception.
* The Chicago Tribune reported the Oakland Raiders have sought permission to talk to newly minted Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice about their coaching vacancy. Pretty sure it was the Tribune, although it sure sounds like it could be The Heckler as well.
* The St. Louis Cardinals visited the White House where President Barack Obama praised the World Series champions. Missing was recently retired manager Tony LaRussa, who reportedly had family business. Also absent was recently departed free-agent first baseman Albert Pujols, who signed a $256 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels — guessing he’s part of the 1 percent that the 99 percent have been talking about.
* At the Bulls game Tuesday was White Sox general manager Ken Williams. When his visage was shown on the scoreboard video, some in the crowd booed. Presumably because he hasn’t won a World Series since 2005. Something says Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein would be cheered. For no reason — well, other than for having traded away right-hander Carlos Zambrano.
* Speaking of the Cubs, they reportedly are making their scouts take the L instead of cabs? Guess that’s the team’s idea of taking its first step to a subway series. Or reasonable facsimile thereof.
* It’s merely a guess that the Chicago Fire has to be feeling its oats after announcing a jersey deal with Quaker.
* Speaking of food groups, wondering whether the perceived increase in the number of TV ads for mac-and-cheese is an indication of economic times or merely a way to ease Green Bay Packers fans’ pain.
* Television viewership for Sunday’s New York Giants/Packers game was 45.1 million. Television viewership for Sunday’s Golden Globes was 16.8 million. The statistical analysis department at elliottharris.com is betting there is an even greater disparity regarding money wagered on each.
* Speaking of television, new Channel 5 (in Chicago) meteorologist Cheryl Scott and actress Marion (“Happy Days”) Ross are scheduled to appear on Thursday’s “Sports & Torts” with David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com.The program also will be available on podcast.
* Speaking of visuals, how about a video featuring April Rose, one of this site’s most favorite females:
