Monday meanderings: Is there a better all-star game than the NFL’s Pro Bowl? Uh, why yes. Every other one, in fact — although the NHL does its best to be the worst of the lot. Unless a 12-9 outcome (some of us won’t even bother listing the names because 1. too tough to spell; 2. too meaningless to mention; 3. too non-Canadian to care; 4. all of the aforementioned) is your idea of stellar hockey.
* Nothing speaks to the the Pro Bowl’s appeal quite like Sunday’s 59-41 AFC victory over the NFC. Anyone wanting to make a case for the NFL contest showing the sport at its finest would seem to have an argument without much defense. Kind of like the game itself. The only saving grace of the Pro Bowl — other than a trip to Hawaii for a fortunate few — would appear to be the game’s cheerleaders. (please see video below)
* During the Chicago Bulls-Miami Heat game Sunday, your correspondent took time out (from doing just about nothing) to spend 30 minutes in a room with the treadmill and the game on televison. The treadmill noise wiped out the sound of ABC’s halftime analysis. Gee, what a shame. Next time I actually may get on treadmill and exercise. Hey, we all have to start someplace.
* Speaking of the Wirtz family (oh, we weren’t? Guess that’s what a few glasses of wine can do), Wirtz Beverage and Kendall Jackson employees — along with assorted invited guests — made for a wonderful evening of watching “Undercover Boss” on CBS at Paris Club in downtown Chicago. Among the crowd watching the episode featuring Kendall Jackson president Rick Tigner were fitness guru Andrea Metcalf, yogi Laura Peskoe (meaning she is a yoga expert rather than a Yogi Berra expert), several members of the Chicago Luvabulls, Anne and Danny Wirtz (let me know if this is starting to sound like a society column, and I’ll stop), All Terrain, Inc. co-founder Brook Jay and other assorted folks too numerous to mention (especially when you can’t remember all the names — can we blame it on the wine? Probably not).
* Because of the commitment to attend the “Undercover Boss” party, yours truly had to cut short watching the Screen Actors Guild red-carpet TV program (ah, the sacrifices some of us make in the name of work). Could have sworn SAG referred to the body parts of older actresses. How silly.
* Speaking of body parts, this site is happy to run another of the candidates for Playboy’s Playmate of the Year 2012. Today we have Sasha Bonilova, Miss May 2011:
The Chicago White Sox ended their annual SoxFest where they began it — in a tie for first place in the American League Central. Here is some video featuring first baseman Paul Konerko.
More Sox video later in the week, if things go according to plan (and every once in a while, they actually do).
As promised, some NFL Pro Bowl cheerleaders (plus Japanese cheerleaders, too):
