Thursday thoughts: If the reported free-agent signing of Vladimir Radmanovic is the answer for the Chicago Bulls, what exactly was the question? Possibly: Who averaged fewer points in the 2012 postseason than Bulls backup center Omer Asik (3.3 ppg)? Radmanovic was scoreless in two playoff appearances for the Atlanta Hawks.
* With or without Asik, the Bulls are not going to reign in 2012-13. The previous sentence exists solely to use the word “reign.” If you continue with today’s effort, you’ll probably figure out why.
* If this baseball thing doesn’t work out for Jeff Samardzija, the Cubs right-hander looks like he could find employment as the guy who plays the character of Captain Morgan. Based on the former Notre Dame football star’s performance against Miami on Wednesday (July 18) with nine strikeouts and ome run in five innings in a 5-1 victory, Samardzija shouldn’t have to worry any time soon.
* Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis read the starting lineups for the Cubs for their game Wednesday at Wrigley Field. Sure hope Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen didn’t feel slighted. At some point, the Cubs will become less dependent on celebrities at the ballgames to provide entertainment value at Wrigley. OK, maybe not.
* Speaking of the Cubs game, can someone at Tribune Co. please buy a windshield wiper so that the WGN television camera that featured numerous raindrops during the game could provide a cleared picture? OK, maybe after all the bankruptcy stuff is out of the way — which should be any day.
*Speaking of Reign (and if we weren’t, we should be), your humble correspondent had the pleasure of attending Exxxotica Chicago 2012 over the weekend at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. Always in search of material for this space, we happened upon a familiar face (well, that and other body parts). Adult actress Tasha Reign was signing autographs and posing for photos with her numerous fans but took a little time to chat. We all can be thankful for that — even if she did have on more clothing than some out there in cyberspace might be accustomed to seeing her wear. This video is safe for work (sorry to disappoint anyone hoping it would be otherwise):
From this vantage point, it appears that today is Thursday. Meaning it is time once again for the popular interview program “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. Well, the show certainly is popular in the Spada and Harris households. Appearing on today’s edition that airs at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com will be longtime baseball broadcaster Jerry Coleman, the former New York Yankees second baseman. Even better — for those of us who will be in the studio — Lori Colognesi Hess will be an in-studio guest. Lori is founder of divaexchange.com and a participant in the world of bikini and figure competitions. She also is involved in other ventures that no doubt will be discussed in the 60-minute program. For those unable to tune into the live event, the show will be available on podcast later in the afternoon.
For those who might be interested in advertising on “Sports & Torts” (and having the possibility of also being in the studio when such wonderful women are guests), you may contact david@injuryinillinois.com.
Chicago Sky forward Swin Cash appears in ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue. For some video featuring Cash talking about the experience, you can click here. She is a member of the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team. Based on her performance this season in the WNBA, you might wonder why. She is averaging 9.8 points per game and is shooting 33 percent from the field (28 percent from three-point range). She leads the Sky in turnovers. All this is not to say Cash does not provide a presence on the court. She has been on three WNBA championship teams. Cash’s Olympic chances benefit from having Geno Auriemma, who coached her at Connecticut, as the U.S. coach. It will be interesting to see whether Cash’s level of play rises in London and how much playing time she sees at the Summer Games.
As long as we’re talking about fantastic females (and even if we weren’t), here is some video of Maxim Australia’s Lauryn Eagle — yes, this may seem gratuitous, but that’s a problem how?:
