As the faithful readers of this space (and even the philanderers out there in cyberspace) know, the guy who generally provides original videos for this site is Elliott Harris. Seems reasonable in that this just so happens to be his site.
On occasion, West Coast correspondent Mark Harris — based in Los Angeles — provides video and/or photographs. Today, special Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend correspondent David Spada — yes, the very same person who co-hosts “Sports & Torts” on talkzone.com with Elliott on Thursdays at noon Chicago time — has taken the initiative to travel to Canton, Ohio. David provided video of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell from Friday (Aug. 3). It is available on YouTube. Or you can click here.
David also interviewed the Hall of Fame Queen, Elissa Prazer. She is a student at Ohio University. For that, the photo/video department at elliottharris.com is happy to provide direct access (and, yes, this is evidence in case the Internal Revenue Service questions any of David’s expenses for the trip to Canton; it’s unclear how this will serve as evidence for any questions David’s wife might have, but that’s probably another story for another day):
Speaking of pro football, the Hall of Fame game is set for Sunday. How set the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints are remains to be seen. How set the game’s officials are remains to be whistled. Or something like that.
The contest reportedly will have replacement officials patrolling the field. The identities of the officials have not been announced but will be at game time, an NFL official said.
The NFL has locked out members of the NFL Referees Association since June 3 when talks between the league and the officials’ union broke down.
Goodell said he was comfortable using replacements in preseason games. The comfort level for using such personnel in regular-season games may be less when more — as in money (betting, etc.) — is involved. The idea of using non-union officials is all a part of labor negotiations. Sometimes the strategy can work; sometimes it can backfire.
If the NFL is going to use replacements, the recommendation here is Jessa Hinton, who certainly looks far better than any of the league’s on-field talent. Hey, she already has the uniform. Or close enough from this perspective.
Jessa, the Playboy Playmate for July 2011, is scheduled to be part of Glamourcon on Saturday at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare in Rosemont, Ill. Information on the show is available here.
The Comcast SportsNet Chicago career of Sarah Kustok personality did not end with a bang or a whimper (look up T.S. Eliot for a literary reference, if you don’t understand the bang or whimper stuff). It ended with a shaving-cream pie in the face, courtesy (or lack of courtesy, as the case may be) of Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
The Sox’ 8-6 victory in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Angels at U.S. Cellular Field on an Alex Rios home run marked the last event Kustok covered for CSN. As she was interviewing Rios, Pierzynski sneaked up and landed the pie squarely in Sarah’s face. She took the prank good-naturedly — but did vow to reciprocate against provacateur Pierzynski.
At about 2 a.m. Chicago time Saturday, Sarah tweeted: walkoff win. shaving cream pie. no better way to say goodbye. best guys around. Sarah also sent along the photo of receiving the pie in her face. A good sport to the end. More accurately, a good sport to the face.
For action footage of the pie in the face, here you go (courtesy of Comcast SportsNet):
And, as usual, Pierzynski has the last word:
