A Number of Concern About Bears’ Vacancy

January 9, 2013 @ No Comments

Midweek musimgs: The Chicago Bears continue to lead the NFL in one curious category: coaches interviewed to fill a vacancy. Here’s hoping someone in authority reminds Bears general manager Phil Emery the idea is to land the best candidate, not the most.

Katherine Webb is a definite focal point.

* Speaking of the Bears’ task to replace fired coach Lovie Smith, the idea of having Mike Singletary as a candidate can’t be Emery’s idea. Could the McCaskey family be behind this? Yes — and behind the times, too.

* Speaking of Smith, he is scheduled to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday (Jan. 10). If Smith didn’t like the media in Chicago (and by most indications, he wasn’t a big fan), good luck if he lands the Eagles job. If Smith is looking for a kinder, gentler media, something says he would be silly to expect to find it in Philly.

* In case you missed Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s girlfriend on Monday’s BCS championship game, fear not. Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday: We are going to ask Katherine Webb to be a judge at the Miss USA Pageant coming up in Las Vegas. Really? Without checking her birth certificate?

* Speaking of Webb (which is a much better idea than speaking about Trump), ESPN chastised announcer Brent Musburger for pointing out Webber’s good looks: “We always try to capture interesting story lines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama [USA] and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test,” the ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said. “However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.” Really? ESPN should apologize to Musburger for issuing an apology.

* Still speaking of the Webb-Musburger saga, Webb told the Associated Press: “It was kind of nice. I didn’t look at it as creepy at all. For a woman to be called beautiful, I don’t see how that’s an issue.” Someone tell that to ESPN, which — and this is merely an educated guess — wouldn’t have focused on her in the stands if she wasn’t attractive and noteworthy. * Recently engaged Phil Jackson (to Los Angeles Lakers exec Jeanie Buss) apparently won’t be engaging in any NBA coaching. Not even the Brooklyn Nets. “I have no intention of ever coaching again,” Jackson — who won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and five with the Lakers — told SheridanHoops.com. Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo reacted: “I don’t believe Phil. I’ve known Phil too long.”

* Speaking of NBA activity, there’s some good news for Bulls fans: Star guard Derrick Rose is taking contact in practice. The bad news for Bulls fans: The team still needs another star-quality player to challenge for an NBA title.

With Bliss quarterback Heather Furr back, the offense is in good hands.

Yes, it has been a while since this site has run anything on the Lingerie Football League’s Chicago Bliss. Then again, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on with the team. Well, other than practicing. After all, the team did not play a 2012 season, as the league broadened its horizons and focused on expansion to Canada.

The LFL is to have a major rebranding announcement Wednesday (Jan.9). At the moment these words are being typed, the Bliss has its 2013 schedule set.

Home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview: June 6 vs. the Los Angeles Temptation and Aug. 2 vs. the Las Vegas Sin.

Road games: Aug. 10 vs. the Minnesota Valkyrie and Aug. 10 vs. the Green Bay Chill.

The Lingerie Bowl is scheduled for Aug. 31. Unless, of course, it’s renamed to something else as part of any rebranding.
