Looks like somebody is about to cash in on the popularity of losing weight.
Fitness maven Andrea Metcalf is set to debut her “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is” reality television series. The hour-long show, which will award contestants $10 for every pound they lose, is to debut Saturday (Feb. 4) at 1 p.m. on the NBC Nonstop over-the-air on 5.2, on Comcast 341, RCN 50 and WOW 130. Replays will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
The 12-week series will follow three men and five women trying to lose 30 percent of their weight. Participants reaching their goal can win $5,000. Each participant has a personal trainer to help in the process.
“The best way to start a weight loss program is to stop procrastinating,” Andrea says. “If a reality TV forum is what works for some, or getting paid to lose weight works for others, the real goal is to get started! I encourage our at-home audience to get on the floor and pump with us … sitting on the sofa won’t help you meet your fitness goals!”
Gee, and some of us were hoping by osmosis and watching we might lose a few pounds. Oh, well.

Maybe your correspondent will watch the show while on the treadmill. And after watching an episode or two, maybe even turn on the treadmill while watching.

Among Mikita’s remarks:
* On his first Blackhawks goal: “This was probably the greatest goal scored in the history of hockey. Ted Lindsay was my first left winger, and I learned an awful lot of things from Ted, including some things I shouldn’t be doing, but the play was that we shot it in the corner and I went for the net, and all of a sudden, somebody spun me around and I feel something on my left [butt] cheek, ‘Who in the hell hit me with that stick?!’ Now the place is going crazy, puck’s in the net. ‘What happened?’ I said. They said, ‘You just scored.’ I said, ‘I got hit in the ass with a puck!’ Well, it went from there and in the net. So that scenario goes, ‘Boy, there must be a God up there.’ ”
* On his most vivid memory of the 1961 Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks: “The thing that stood out to me was Glenn Hall. I’ve never seen a man play goal that fast and that quick; he might’ve developed the flap. Stop and flap and he’s ready to go again, so he was never out of position. When a guy like him can pitch a shutout against a team, especially that team, the Montreal Canadiens [in the first round], and he did it twice in a row, which was the fifth and sixth games, and then we went on against Detroit. But that series there … ever since then, I’ve never seen a goalie play better.”
OK, how about some exercise video with Andrea Metcalf?
For those less inclined to be concerned about fitness and more inclined to want to see another of the fetching females hoping to be the Hooters Dream Girl 2012, here is Brooke Adams, who is one of the eight finalists:
The editorial staff at elliottharris.com is feeling a bit like the butcher who backed into the meat grinder: getting a little behind in his work. Anyway, here is one of the week’s “Maximum Exposure” offerings from April Rose. If things go according to plan (and occasionally they do), there will be more of her online series posted around here on Saturday. Yes, sometimes, it’s challenging to keep abreast of things — no matter how hard we may try.
