Looking back and ahead at Week 5 in the NFL (and, yes, the sentence-construction police at elliottharris.com realizes the words before the parenthesis do not constitute a complete sentence, thank you very much).
Among Sunday’s accomplishments:
Bare down. Or maybe simply: Bear down. Bears attire never looked better than with Kamila showing exvcellent form.
• The Kansas City Chiefs overcame a 24-7 deficit to defeat Indianapolis 28-24. It was the seventh time this season that a team trailed by at least 17 points and rallied to win. That is the most through the first five weeks of any NFL season.
* New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees completed 32 of 45 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints’ 30-27 victory at Carolina. Meaning he has a touchdown pass in 32 consecutive games. That is the third-longest streak in NFL history behind Johnny Unitas (47) and Brett Favre (36). Brees also extended his NFL-record streak of consecutive games with at least 20 completions to 25.
• Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns in winning 34-10 against the Arizona Cardinals. His three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter made him the fifth player since the 1970 merger to accomplish the feat. The others: Eric Dickerson (10/31/88), James Stewart (10/12/97), Stephen Davis (9/19/99) and Tim Biakabutuka (10/3/99).
• Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick rushed for 90 yards (4,948 for his career) against Buffalo and surpassed Randall Cunningham (4,928) for the most rushing yards by am NFL quarterback. Vick also holds quarterback rushing records for a game (173) and season (1,039).
• Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton passed for two touchdowns and rushed for one against New Orleans. The No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton has seven passing touchdowns and five rushing TDs. He is the first NFL player with at least five passing and five rushing touchdowns in the first five games of a career.
• New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker had 124 receiving yards in defeating the New York Jets. Welker has 740 receiving yards this season, the most for a team’s first five games of a season. The previous mark was 704 by Charley Hennigan of the Houston Oilers in 1961.
Which brings us to Monday night’s Chicago Bears-Detroit Lions game. And photos of one of our favorites, Kamila Sulewska McCormick. She has modeled for Playboy and has been kind enough to share some photos of her in Bears attire. Bears fans can only hope their team looks half as good on the field as Kamila does in her garb. DE JULIUS PEPPERS has 9 sacks in 6 career meetings & has sack in all 6 contests. Since entering NFL in 2002, Peppers has 92 sacks, 3rd most in NFL. CB D.J. MOORE had 20-yard INT-TD last week, 2nd career INT-TD…LIONS: Are 1st team in NFL history to win consecutive games after trailing by 20+ points in each…QB MATTHEW STAFFORD ranks 2nd in NFC with 11 TD passes…RB JAHVID BEST is 1 of 4 players in NFL with 190+ rush (190) & 200+ rec. (205) yards. Rushed for 1st 2 career TDs vs. Chi. (9/12/10)…WR CALVIN JOHNSON is 1st player in NFL history with 2+ rec. TDs in each of 1st 4 games of season. Can become 1st player all-time with 2+ rec. TDs in 5 games in row. Since start of 2008, has 37 rec. TDs, most in NFL. TE BRANDON PETTIGREW ranks 3rd among NFL TEs with 22 receptions. WR TITUS YOUNG is 3rd among NFC rookies with 181 rec. yards (12 catches, 15.1 avg.)…. Club is tied for NFL lead with +8 turnover ratio (11 takeaways, 3 giveaways). DE CLIFF AVRIL had 3 sacks in last meeting. In past 4 vs. Chi., has 5 sacks, 2 FF & FR. CB CHRIS HOUSTON (56 yards) & LB BOBBY CARPENTER (34) each had INT-TD last week.
