Around noon Wednesday, it began. The introduction of Kim DeJesus to Cubs Nation. And, as befits coverage in cyberspace, it began on Twitter. She retweeted the message from MLB:
BREAKING: OF David DeJesus and Cubs agree to two-year contract with club option for 2014.
She followed shortly with:
I was born a cubs fan, and now im married to one!!!!!! COULDNT BE MORE EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOOOO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to know someone was excited about the Cubs’ acquisition of her husband. Something says there will be some excitement regarding Wheaton native Kim. Most likely with fewer exclamation points!!!!
And so it continued into the afternoon (for all her tweets, you can follow her at @KimDeJesus12.
Holy SMokes!!! Thanks for the warm welcome cubbies!!! Feels like Christmas morning!
always thought it was a blessing that one out of 2 ballparks my husband has never hit at was the cubs, how could I cheer against my Cubbies?
Lol I’m already at the nail salon painting my nails cubs colors!!! The best colors in baseball!!!!!
Born and raised suburban girl my dad used to have season tix!
When I was 7 I had a Ryan sandberg poster in my room and told everyone that I was gonna marry him Looks like I just had the wrong name!

Dang cubbies fans! you are amazing! It’s like 15 christmas mornings all piled into one day!
warning: anyone who watches baseball wives tonight…it is NOT really the way baseball wives r. I don’t even need to watch it to know this.
baseball wives was worse than i thought it was going to be, and i thought it would be bad
wow! ive never tweeted so much as i did today, i don’t think i could keep up like this every day! But it was fun, ya’ll r great! night!
And so it ended. Around 11:30 p.m. If Kim’s husband can generate a fraction of the excitement and enthusiasm (no need to match the tweets), the Cubs will have done OK with the first acquisition of the Theo Epstein/Jed Hoyer era.
Still on the subject of baseball (and not baseball wives, sorry), trading-card company Topps announced its 53rd annual rookie all-star team. No Cubs on the squad, but there was one Boston Red Sox (which Cubs fans can only hope portends well for their team in a few years). The Topps team:
1B: Mark Trumbo, Angels (149 games, 29 HR, 87 RBI, .254)
2B: Danny Espinosa, Nationals (158, 21, 66, .236)
SS: Dee Gordon, Dodgers (56, 0, 11, .304)
3B: Brett Lawrie, Blue Jays (43, 9, 25, .293)
OF: Desmond Jennings, Rays (63, 10, 25, .259)
OF: Josh Reddick, Red Sox (87, 7, 28, .280)
OF: Ben Revere, Twins (117, 0, 30, .267)
C: J.P. Arencibia, Blue Jays (129, 23, 78, .219)

Relief:Craig Kimbrel, Braves (77 IP, 46 Saves, 2.10, 127 K, 32 BB)
And then there is Bears quarterback Jay Cutler with Kristin Cavallari. OK, more like the reality television personality shining the spotlight on herself once again. On Twitter, where else?
Kristin tweeted in the early afternoon Wednesday: This time its official..Jay and I are engaged again
During Wednesday’s media gathering at Halas Hall, Cutler jokingly said he “just heard about” Cavallari’s post. The two were negaged in April, but he broke off things before they were to be married last summer. Cutler confirmed the on-again engagement but said the couple had not set a wedding date.
