Bears About to Tackle Tough Call Regarding Urlacher

March 12, 2013 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while wondering whether the possibility of Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher becoming a free agent and signing with another team is more disconcerting to Bears fans or to Urlacher:

Tosca Reno clowns with Andy Haman at the 2013 Arnold Sports Festival.

* The New York Yankees — with first baseman Mark Teixeira out util at least May with a wrist injury — reportedly have contacted former Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee to come out of retirement. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman apparently wants to go all out to win the World Series. Or at least the one from 2003 when Lee actually did with the Florida Marlins — against the Yankees.

* Speaking of the Cubs, their 2013 Opening Day starter Jeff Samardzija allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks and said he felt “outstanding,” You have to wonder how many runs he might allow on a day when he’s less than outstanding.

* Speaking of Opening Day pitchers, Chicago White Sox left-hander Chris Sale — who likely could fill that role — pitched five scoreless innings before giving up a leadoff home run in the sixth against the Colorado Rockies and exited. “We are going to keep going and see how everyone does,” Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “We are not ready to [name a starter for the April 1] yet. We will see how everybody is the next couple of weeks and go from there.”

* Northwestern’s baseball team will be going to Wrigley Field for its April 20 game (6:05 p.m.) against Michigan. Tickets ($7) go on sale Friday. “We’re so grateful to the entire Chicago Cubs organization for opening the doors to this historic venue and for allowing Chicago’s Big Ten Team to play a game at their beautiful facility,” Wildcats coach Paul Stevens said in a release. “Whether you grew up in Chicago or California, if you’re a ballplayer, you’ve dreamt of one day playing at Wrigley Field, one of the iconic sporting venues in the world.” And if you’re a college student, you’ve probably dreamed of drinking beer there.

Tosca Reno knows how to pose. She also is a successful businesswoman, author and more.

Yes, we still have several interviews from the Arnold Sports Festival with some incredible people. Today we have the iconic Tosca Reno. She is the publisher and chief executive officer at Robert Kennedy Publishing and also is a fitness model, columnist and author of the “Eat-Clean Diet” series.

As long as we’re talking about folks who were at the Arnold Sports Festival, here are a couple of familiar faces. Nicole Moneer and Samantha Slaven both have been guests on “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com. A reminder that Lisa Marie Varon (TNA’s Tara) will be a guest this week on Thursday’s show at noon Chicago time. Also a reminder she will be part of the TNA Impact Wrestling Live event March 14 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. And her restaurant The Squared Circle (2418 N. Ashland, Chicago) is to open March 14.
