Thursday thoughts (or what passes for them around the editorial offices at elliottharris.com): The Chicago Bears have raised their tickets prices to the fourth-highest in the NFL. Which certainly is justified because of the team’s postseason success in 2012. Oh, wait. The Bears have been in the playoffs once since 2006 and have raised tickets every year but once in the last decade. As Vince Lombardi once said, “Winning isn’t everything; making money is.” Oh, wait. He didn’t say that. Maybe George Halas did.
* Speaking of the Bears, quarterback Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari are engaged to be married. Sometime this year, the former reality TV personality says. For details, you can click eonline.com. Something says in the world of romance, Cutler is far from all-pro. Unless somehow proposing by text and mailing the engagement ring to your fiancee qualifies near the top of the romance department.
* Tuesday was national signing day for college football programs. Amazingly, every school landed every recruit it wanted. Even more amazing is each recruit will star on the gridiron and in the classroom. Yeah, right. Trying to make signing day into the college version of the NFL draft is a bit much. You want to judge signing day? Check back in three or four years for an accurate assessment.
* The 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model will be revealed on the Feb. 11 “Late Show With David Letterman.” Think of this as one more example of why this site should merit consideration for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service (or the cyberspace equivalent). More info on SI models appearing on the show is available here. There’s nothing quite like SI swimsuit coverage. Or uncoverage, for that matter.
With pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training next week, it seemed a reasonable time to run some baseball video. Or as close to it as the video department at elliottharris.com has. Which is some footage from Cubs Convention and/or SoxFest. We are pleased to provide some. Then again, some of us are pleased more easily than others. Today’s offering consists of Sox pitcher Chris Sale and Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija:
With today being Thursday (based on the fact that yesterday was Wednesday — provided that you’re reading this on Feb. 7, 2013, or a subsequent Thursday), that means it is time once again for the weekly edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. The highly acclaimed program (well, it is in the Spada and Harris households and reportedly elsewhere as well) that broadcasts live at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com will feature Jack Youngblood, the former Los Angeles Rams and Florida Gators defensive lineman. The program also will be available later in the day via podcast at talkzone.com.
Yes, this is the part of the program where the non-gratuitous videos go:
