The Chicago Bulls went to the dogs Saturday night (Dec. 8). Actually, singular. And it was during a timeout early in the game against the New York Knicks at the United Center. Jumpin Junebug provided the entertainment (video below).
As for the game, there was dogged pursuit of a victory. The Bulls prevailed as Marco Belinelli scored 15 of his 22 points in a 93-85 decision. Among other notable figures of interest, Bulls center Joakin Noah — coming off a 30-point, 23-rebound performance Friday — almost had a triple-double: 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine turnovers. Consider it safe to say he would have been the first NBA player to follow a 30-point, 20-plus rebound effort with a triple-double such as that.
Then there was reserve forward Taj Gibson, who was ejected from the game with 3:40 left in the second quarter because of drawing two technical fouls for voicing his displeasure with the officiating.
“He had some tough calls go against him,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. “It’s an emotional game. We have to do better with that. When you get one [technical], you’ve got to let it go.”
And then there was Kirk Hinrich, who sat out the second half because of an injured left elbow.
“He is day-to-day,” Thibodeau — who does not claim to be a doctor on TV or anywhere else — said.
As if the rest of us aren’t?
Anyway, the Bulls held the Knicks to an opponent season-low .321 field-goal percentage. Raymond Felton, who led the Knicks with 27 points, was 9-of-30 from the field.
“Ray had great looks,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. “I’ll take that anytime when he is making shots.”
And the Bulls will take that anytime when he isn’t making shots.

This is not particularly sports-related — other than some of us remember Howard Cosell on ABC’s “Monday Night Football” informing the world of the news that John Lennon was murdered. The date was Dec. 8, 1980. A terrible loss for the world — music and otherwise. His works live on. No better example than this:
And Chappy Chanuka. Or Happy Hannukah. Or any other way you want to spell Judaism’s Festival of Lights. It’s a minor holiday — unless you realize it’s eight nights of gift-giving. The great thing about gifts is as you age, you realize the most important gifts have no price for they are the intangibles of life. OK, this concludes Sunday’s sermon. Thank you; you’ve been a wonderful audience. In appreciation, may we offer Adam Sandler’s holiday merriment:
