It has been said that 90 percent (or close to it) of life is just showing up. Someone should have told the Chicago Bulls that success occasionally requires more than just showing up. The game Saturday (Nov. 3) against the New Orleans Hornets was one such occasion.
Playing without the league’s top 2012 draft pick Anthony Davis because of a mild concussion suffered Friday, the Hornets defeated the Bulls 89-82 at the United Center. Bulls starters Carlos Boozer and Kirk Hinrich went 1-for-8 apiece from the field and Richard Hamilton was 2-of-10, as the team shot 33 percent from the field. From three-point range, the Bulls were 3-for-17. Backup guard Marco Belinelli, who last season played for the Hornets, had 13 points — including eight in the first quarter — for the Bulls.
Luol Deng led the Bulls (2-1) with 19 points, Nate Robinson had 15 and Taj Gibson 13 off the bench, while Joakim Noah had 11 points and 11 rebounds
“Tough day at the office,” Noah said. “We got our asses kicked. They were way more on edge than us. It’s unfortunate because it was a good opportunity to go 3-0. But on to the next one. Three games in; 79 more to go.”
“We got outhustled,” Gibson said. “They were physical from the start of the game. They set the tone right away.
“They execyted real well. Their coach [Monty Williams] is one of the best in this league. Any given night, guys can step up, even if their top players are down. … You can’t sleep on anybody.
“It’s only three games into the season, but we have to adjust and get ready for the next one.”
That would be Tuesday night at the United Center when the Bulls will have the opportunity to do something more than merely show up.
Some video from the Bulls-Hornets game and postgame — and it wouldn’t be complete without including the Luvabulls (with the likelihood of more video featuring the dance team to come another day):
If things go according to plan (every once in a while they actually do around here), there will be a second Sunday posting that features picking the winners of Sunday’s NFL games. If former Playboy Playmate Jaime Edmondson makes such selections, we likely will use hers. If she doesn’t, we might go ahead and make our own picks and use her to illustrate them (sheer genius, right?).
For those keeping track of such things, Jaime did correctly predict the San Diego Chargers defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Thursday night’s game.
Of course, there is the possibility of not making any football forecasts at all. Then again, at the rate some of us are typing, we might not be up in time for the early games Sunday.
Not sure that that “fall back” stuff with the clocks and theoretically enjoying an extra hour of sleep really will work.
Because of some technical issues Friday night, Saturday’s site featured only one video. We are sorry. Please forgive. Here is some video that tries to compensate for such a terrible fate:
No, we do not have video from the Ironman Championships held Saturday in Chicago. This will have to suffice as a consolation prize (well, until some Ironman footage surfaces):
