Bulls Snowed Under in Loss to Nuggets

February 8, 2013 @ No Comments

The 128-96 loss that the Chicago Bulls suffered against the Nuggets on Thursday (Feb. 7) in Denver was the worst of coach Tom Thibodeau’s tenure. The Nuggets’ total accounted for the most points allowed by a Thibodeau Bulls team. On the bright side, the Bulls did avoid the snow that hit Chicago on Thursday.

* There is talk of the Bulls trading forward Carlos Boozer for Toronto’s Andres Bargnani. Also reported to be in the deal would be Bulls guard Nate Robinson and former Bulls guard John Lucas III. The trade deadline is Feb. 21. Or roughly about the same time that recuperating guard Derrick Rose could be returning to the Bulls lineup. Bargnani, a former No. 1 overall NBA draft pick, theoretically would give the Bulls a better outside shooter. And theoretically a better outside shot at an NBA title.

* Speaking of unlikely accomplishments, it’s not every day — or night — that Illinois beats a No. 1-ranked basketball team. The Illini’s 74-72 victory vs. visiting Indiana on Thursday was its first against a top-ranked team since 20004. Then again, how often is the top team in the country from the Big Ten?

* As impressive as the Illini’s victory was, the team’s next challenge will come to the road in facing No. 18 Minnesota on Sunday. Guessing you can you say Illinois will Gopher broke then. Because no one around here would say that. Or write that.

* The Chicago Blackhawks are off to an impressive start (9-0-2), the latest achievement being a 6-2 victory Thursday at Phoenix. At this rate, Hawks fans will be disappointed if their team fails to win the Stanley Cup this year — without dropping a game in the playoffs. Something says Hawks fans will accept a Stanley Cup crown accompanied by a sweep in the finals. OK, maybe even without a sweeep.

* For those who enjoy roller derby (and who doesn’t?), the first official bout of the Windy City Rollers 2013 season will be on Saturday with the Manic Attackers vs. The Fury followed by the Double Crossers vs. Hell’s Belles at the UIC PAvilion beginnin at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 each with track-side seats $35. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, and you can save $5 by using the promo code RUTH. For those who enjoy hanging with the lovely ladies who compete in the roller derby (and who doesn’t?), the after-party will be The Shambles, 2050 W. Division St.
