Cubs, Sox Add to Winning Ways; Not So for MJ

May 31, 2012 @ No Comments

Thursday thoughts: Nine more victories in a row and the Chicago Cubs will have offset that 12-game losing streak. A victory Wednesday (May 30) did provide them with their first three-game winning streak of the season and their first series sweep. The only downside? The Cubs don’t play the San Diego Padres with greater regularity. Or even slightly constipated.

* Chicago White Sox general manager Ken Williams is encouraging fans to attend the team’s home games in greater numbers than they have this season (20,662 per game — 27th among 30 Major League franchises). If winning produces big crowds, then the Cubs certainly rate as the exception: They rank No. 8 in home attendance with average crowds of 37,250. Which team is in first place and which team is in last place?

A photo of Luvabulls dancer Erin or one of anything else NBA-related? This is a slam dunk.

* Michael Jordan just can’t win for losing. Well, as owner of the Charlotte Bobcats anyway. His team had the worst record in the NBA this season. Meaning it had the best chance of gaining the top pick in the league’s draft. Instead of the Bobcats, the New Orleans Hornets came away with the top pick during the draft lottery held Wednesday night.

NBA DRAFT LOTTERY
Team (record)

1. Hornets (21-45)
2. Bobcats (7-59)
3. Wizards (20-46)
4. Cavaliers (21-45)
5. Kings (22-44)
6. Blazers* (28-38)
7. Warriors (23-43)
8. Raptors (23-43)
9. Pistons (25-41)
10. Hornets* (21-45)
11. Blazers (28-38)
12. Bucks (31-35)
13. Suns (33-33)
14. Rockets (34-32)
* Acquired in trade

* Speaking of MJ’s Bobcats, they apparently aren’t going to hire Patrick Ewing to replace Paul Silas as coach. Bobcats president of basketball operations said Jordan told the former New York Knicks center the team is going to select someone else. It’s unclear whether Ewing should regard that decision as bad news for him.

* As long as we’re going to have something NBA-related, we might as well feature another of the Chicago Luvabulls. Hey, just because the Bulls aren’t in the conference finals is no reason not to continue running Luvabulls, is it? Today we feature Erin, a native of St. Louis. There’s always room around here for anything featuring one of our favorites, April Rose. The former Loop Rock Girl and Maxim Hometown Hottie winner posted the following video on her own site, aprilroseonline.com. In case anyone is wondering what exactly might be the sports connection here (as if that’s a necessity), let the record show April definitely is a big White Sox fan.

Adrenaline Rush Dance team member Corina will be on "Sports & Torts" Thursday at noon on talkzone.com.

If it’s Thursday (and at last check, in that yesterday was Wednesday and tomorrow is Friday, it should be), then it’s time once again for the weekly “Sports & Torts” show with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com. Guests scheduled to appear are former baseball stars Tony Oliva and Tommy Davis (did you realize he also played for the Cubs and White Sox?) and Adrenaline Rush Dancers team member Corina. The listing is not necessarily in order of appearance on the program. Or in order of preference for some of us. Corina is set to be an in-studio guest. Among other topics, she will chat about being part of the Arena Football League’s NET10 Dream Team contest. She and fellow ARD Nicole are competing for a chance to earn a trip to New Orleans for the AFL title game. To vote, you can click here. You can vote daily until the contest ends June 15.

Here is some Adrenaline Rush Dancers video from this season:

As long as we’re in a dance mode, here is a video of some folks taping footage that they hope might end up as part of Ellen DeGeneres’ television show that has been known to feature people dancing behind people who are unaware of any such activity:

As long as we’re in an Ellen Dance Dare mode, here is former NFL star Michael Strahan from a few months ago:
