DeJesus, Wood Foundations to Hold Fund-Raisers

December 28, 2012 @ No Comments

Cubs Convention weekend will have a fashionable and fashionably early start on the day before the annual winter homage to the baseball team begins. A fashion show fund-raiser to benefit the David DeJesus Family Foundation — “Strike a Pose” — will be held Jan. 17 at the River East Arts Center, 435 E. Illinois St.

Kim and David DeJesus are chairing a fund-raiser Jan. 17.

Channel 5’s Cheryl Scott will emcee the event with Cubs outfielder David DeJesus and first baseman Anthony Rizzo serving as honorary emcees.

DeJesus and wife Kim are chairing the event. Money raised from the evening will be donated to ALS research.

“It has been a longtime desire to host a charity event in our hometown of Chicago,” David said. “We felt it was only natural to make our first fundraiser dedicated to raising funds for research, patient care and family support for those suffering from ALS.”

“We are excited to give ALS a voice in this city,” Kim said.

There will be a VIP reception at 6:30 p.m. with coacktails and food at 7 and the fashion show at 8. A raffle and auction also will be part of the festivities. There will be dancing after the fashion show with DJ Kasper K leading the way.

In addition to Kim and David DeJesus, other expected participants include Kerry and Sarah Wood, Darwin and Lindsay Barney, Travis and Brittany Wood, Shawn Camp, Tony Campana, Starlin Castro, Steve Clevenger, Scott Feldman, Brett Jackson, Anthony Rizzo, James Russell and Ian Stewart.

Tickets are $250 per person and $2,500 for a table of four that includes reserved seating and table service. Information or to make a donation is available by calling (773) 404-CUBS. Tickets are available at www.cubs.com/fashion.

Sarah and Kerry Wood at the 2012 inaugural event.

Speaking of fund-raisers in conjunction with Cubs Convention, the Wood Family Foundation (as in former Cubs pitcher Kerry and wife Sarah) will hold the second annual Woody’s Winter Warm-Up Celebrity Mixer on Jan. 18 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Harry Caray’s Tavern Navy Pier. If this 2013 version is anything like the inaugural event, it should be a lot of fun.

Cubs players and others will serve as celebrity servers for the evening’s festivities that will include a raffle, auction, food and drink.

Tickets are $150 per person or $1,000 for a booth of four that includes cocktail service. Information and tickets are available at www.woodfamilyfoundation.org.
