Derrick Rose, Katy Perry Run in Same Circles?

April 1, 2012 @ No Comments

Derrick Rose runs with some fast company. At least in his latest ad from adidas. The Chicago Bulls star and reigning NBA Most Valuable Player is shown running along with singer Katy Perry and soccer stars David Beckham and Lionel Messi.

Derrick Rose, David Beckham, Lionel Messi or Katy Perry? Sorry to disappoint soccer and/or D-Rose fans.

A 60-second spot released last week features the quartet running separately to a remix of Perry’s single “Part of Me.” It’s all for the new ClimaCool Seduction running shoe.

The shoe is supposed to be cooler (temperature-wise, if that’s a word — and even if it’s not) and reduce moisture in the shoe by 50 percent. The shoe lists for a cool $100 at adidas.com.

“This next generation of ClimaCool blends a dramatic new design with tons of breathability to give you a carefree ride for every run this summer,” director of running for adidas America Mikal Peveto said.

Bulls fans would be breathing easier knowing Rose will be recovered from a groin injury any day now and remain healthy as the team looks to make a long postseason run.

Rose is expected to miss his 10th game in a row when the Bulls play Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It’s not tempting at all,” Rose said of coming back too soon to face the Thunder, one of the favorites in the West to reach the NBA finals. “Where I’m worried about my health right now. I think any ballplayer would want to play against a [team] like that, but every game has been tempting, I just haven’t been able to play.”

There's always room for a Princess Leia photo.

The Bloomington (Ill.) Edge edged the Chicago Slaughter 70-65 Saturday night at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. Even though it was “Star Wars” night for the contest, your humble correspondent did not attend because of other commitments. Of course, any absence will be no excuse for not running a “Star Wars”-themed photo, right? Such a perceptive audience. Especially when the photo happens to be of Princess Leia (also known as Carrie Fisher).

It was either a photo of this or of Todd Hollandsworth. Decisions, decisions.

From this site’s shameless self-promotion department comes news that there will be an event of note Tuesday at the Arlington Heights Library as part of an ongoing sports-themed series. Participating will be veteran scribe Jim O’Donnell, whose work appears in the Chicago Tribune and who will lead the discussion on “Batter Up for Baseball Season.” Also taking part will be Comcast SportsNet Cubs analyst and former Cubs oufielder Todd Hollandsworth and Elliott Harris (gee, that name sounds familiar from some place), author of Hoodoo: Unraveling the 100-Year Mystery of the Chicago Cubs (well, it was 100 years in 2008 when the book came out). The terrific trio will chat about what to expect from the Cubs and White Sox — as well as other big-league teams –this season. There might even be a giveaway or two (with at least one involving a pair of Cubs tickets). The event is scheduled to run from 7-8:30 p.m. Extra innings are not anticipated.

Perhaps the best part of all this is being able to run a photo of an attractive female holding up the book. Well, you had to know there was a reason — other than pure ego — for running a mention of the library event. Something says this item will find its way into Monday’s and Tuesday’s postings — with a different photo likely each day.
