The high-flying Los Angeles Clippers provided the Chicago Bulls with some lowlights Tuesday (Dec. 11). Along with a seemingly endless string of dunks and layups by the Clippers, all-star Blake Griffin recorded his first three-point basket of the season in the Bulls’ 94-89 loss at the United Center that ended their three-game winning streak.
The game also featured the Bulls taking and making three-point shots. They were 10-of-20. And here was a Bulls season low in free throws attempted (12) and made (9).
And then there was Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau’s postgame press conference, which unofficially set a record for the fewest seconds spent answering questions from the media. His session was approximately 2 1/2 minutes — not that he was abrupt with anyone. There simply wasn’t much to say after the Clippers won their seven in a row for their longest winning streak since the 1991-92 season when they won eight consecutive, the franchise’s longest streak since moving to L.A. in 1984.
And, yes, that’s the very Vinny Del Negro — former Bulls coach — in a similar capacity with the Clippers.
“The keys were we held them on deense and made plays down the stretch,” he said. “This is a good team win for us.
Griffin scored 22 and had 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. Carlos Boozer had game-highs for 24 points and 13 rebounds in his 10th double-double.
The solution to giving up as many dunks as the Bulls did?
“Don’t turn it over, stay disciplined,” Thibodeau said.
The solution to turnovers?
“Yes, don’t dance with the ball,” he said. “If you want to be a good team. the first thing you have to do is eliminate all the things you do to beat yourself.”
Some videos from the Bulls game and postgame:
If it’s Wednesday (and chances say that is at least a 99 percent certainty in that yesterday was Tuesday –provided that you are reading this on 12/12/12 or a subsequent Wednesday), then we’re only a day away from the latest installment of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. The highly acclaimed interview show (well, it’s highly acclaimed in the Spada and Harris households, as well as reportedly elsewhere) features two guests on its Dec. 13 program: Korie Kellogg, owner of the Chicago Crave of the recently formed Bikini Basketball Association; and Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Fred Bilenikoff, who starred for the Oakland Raiders. The show is available live on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time and will be available later in the day on podcast.
As a reminder to aspiring female bikini basketball players, tryouts for the Crave will be Sunday (Dec. 16) at Lifetime Fitness in Orland Park (16333 S. LaGrange Rd.) from noon-3 p.m. Players must be 18, bring two photos of themselves and a personal bio. They should wear sports bra, spandex shorts and gym shoes. There is no fee to attend.
