Midweek musings: Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is about as apologetic as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Which is to say he is not. Sacked seven times in the Bears loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6, Cutler said on the “Jay Cutler Show” on ESPN 1000 on Tuesday (Sept. 18) regarding his actions — verbal and otherwise — toward Bears offensive lineman J’Marcus Webb: “As far as me yelling at him and trying to get him going in the game, I don’t regret that. “[I] shouldn’t have bumped him. I’ll stick to that.” Someone should remind Cutler that actions speak louder than words. Or bumps.
* With their 3-2 victory Tuesday at Kansas City, the White Sox reduced their magic number to 13 (combination of Sox victories and Detroit losses). For those who have difficulty following the concept of the magic number, let’s try an alternate way to view things: If the Sox go 8-7 in their 15 remaining games, the Tigers need to go 11-4 to tie for the American League Central crown.
* The folks at coolstandings.com give the Sox an 83 percent chance of winning the AL Central. If that numbers somehow can bring a little peace of mind to Sox fans (something says it won’t until the Sox surpass a 100 percent chance of winning the division).
* Speaking of magic numbers, the Cincinnati Reds’ is four after defeating the Cubs 3-1 at Wrigley Field. Meaning Reds manager Dusty Baker conceivably could win the National League Central before departing Chicago. The Cubs’ magic number? Thinking it might be about 2014 at the earliest.
* Speaking of magical numbers, the Cubs (58-90) need to go 5-9 or better to avoid losing 100 games. Yeah, that’s simply magical, isn’t it? The NL Central Houston Astros lost their 100th game of the season Tuesday at St. Louis. Sadly for the Cubs, the Astros move to the AL next season.

The Bears host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday at Soldier Field. Which means the Rams cheerleaders won’t be performing. In that the Bears have no cheerleaders, the editorial staff at elliottharris.com figured the consolation prize should be some cheerleader video. To view the Rams cheerleaders, you can click here.
And there’s some video of the Rams cheerleaders’ trip to China for the Chinese New Year (this is about as much culture as you are going to get around here).
