Another Sunday, another day of spending quality time with Jaime Edmondson. OK, with her NFL picks and pics. Better than a Sunday without them. Plus you should have looked her up on Twitter at @jaimeedmondson to see her Turkey Day selections to tide you over.
Due to technical difficulties (not to mention some of us awaking a little late on a gloomy Sunday morning in Chicago), Jaime’s picks are slightly delayed. On the bright side, some of us are a bit more rested. Anyway, Jaime’s picks for the early Sunday games (or so the editorial staff at elliottharris.com thinks):
New York Jets over Buffalo, Atlanta over Minnesota, Tennessee over Tampa Bay, Carolina over Indianapolis, St. Louis over Arizona and Houston over Jacksonville.
The late-afternoon games: Seattle over Washington, Oakland over Chicago, New England over Philadelphia and San Diego over Denver. Jaime’s Sunday night pick: Pittsburgh over Kansas City.
For Thanksgiving Day, Jaime was ever-so-close to having her Dolphins (for whom she used to be a cheerleader) defeat the Cowboys. Her picks: Green Bay over Detroit, Miami over Dallas and San Francisco over Baltimore (she was confident a Harbaugh brother would be the winning coach).
For the football fan who is interested in figures of a more statistical variety, here are some:
With 48 yards passing and two touchdown tosses Sunday night against New Orleans, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning will become the fifth QB in NFL history to post seven consecutive seasons with 3,000 yards passing and 20 TDs.he quarterbacks with the most seasons passing for at least 3,000 yards and 20 TDs:
QUARTERBACKS WITH MOST SEASONS OF 3,000 PASSING YARDS & 20 TDs
Brett Favre: 15
Peyton Manning: 13
Dan Marino: 12
Tom Brady: 9*
Drew Brees: 8*
* Includes 2011
QUARTERBACKS WITH MOST CONSECUTIVE SEASONS OF 3,000 PASSING YARDS & 20 TDs
Peyton Manning: 13 (1998-2010)
Brett Favre: 12 (1994-2005)
Dan Marino: 9 (1984-1992)
Drew Brees: 8 (2004-2011)
Tom Brady: 6 (2002-2007)
With a sack Sunday for the St. Louis Rams, defensive end Chris Long , son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long (1981-1993), will reach double digits (10) for the season. The Longs would join Clay Matthews Jr. (1978-1996) and Clay Matthews (2009-2011) as the only father-son duos with double-digit sacks in at least one season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
Howie Long had three consecutive 10-sack seasons (13 in 1983; 12 in 1984; 10 in 1985) with the Los Angeles Raiders. Clay Matthews, Jr. had 12 sacks in 1984; his son reached double digits in his first two seasons (10 in 2009; 13.5 in 2010) with Green Bay.
For the college football fan in the audience, Jaime has something for you. She is featured in a Playboy pictorial of the top 10 college football programs in the Playboy era (since 1957 when the magazine started its college coverage/uncoverage) with its first Pigskin Preview. You can find Jaime at playboy.com.
For those who prefer photos of Jaime (and something says that would be the vast majority), here they are — and also a reminder that you can get your hands on the real thing (the pics, not Jaime) at her Web site, jaimeedmondson.net:
