Jaime Edmondson’s Week 6 Picks and Pics (updated)

October 14, 2012 @ No Comments

If it’s Sunday (which seems likely in that yesterday was Saturday), then it’s time for Jaime Edmondson’s NFL picks. And pics. The Playboy Playmate certainly makes the games more interesting. The league’s department of information (or whatever it’s called) does its best to accomplish the same goal.

Jaime always will pick the Dolphins to win.

Of course, Jaime wins this battle overwhelmingly — certainly among the sighted part of the population that have the chance to enjoy her posing in photos of the teams she selects. To view them on Twitter, you can follow her at @jaimeedmondson. Or you can wait until they are posted here. Or you can enjoy them at both locations. Or ignore them entirely.

As for the NFL department of information (or whatever it’s called), here are some more morsels of information desgiend to give hope to those who follow teams off to a bad start and/or for those interested in individual accomplishments:

* Since 1990, when the current 12-team playoff format began, 13 teams had started off three games under .500 or worse and reached the postseason: 1990 New Orleans Saints (2-5), 1992 San Diego Chargers (1-4), 1993 Houston Oilers (1-4),
1994 New England Patriots (3-6), 1995 Detroit Lions (2-5, 3-6). 1995 San Diego Chargers (4-7), 1996 Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6, 4-7), 2002 Tennessee Titans (1-4), 2002 New York Jets (1-4, 2-5), 2004 Green Bay Packers (1-4), 2008 San Diego Chargers (4-7, 4-8, 5-8), 2010 Seattle Seahawks (6-9), 2011 Denver Broncos (1-4, 2-5)

* Denver quarterback Peyton Manning will face the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football. He has 36 games in which he has thrown at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions, including two such games in 2012. With at least three touchdowns and zero interceptions on Monday night, Manning would surpass Brett Favre for the most such games in NFL history. New England QB Tom Brady has 32 and New Orleans’ Drew Brees 24. Also on the top five list are Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton at 18.

* With a 300-yard passing game vs. the New York Jets, Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck would become the first rook to pass for 300+ in three consecutive games.

* New York Giants QB Eli Manning is 24-5 (.828) in October, the best record among quarterback who began their careers in the Super Bowl era. Next on the list are Kordell Stewart — 16-4 (.800) and Daryle Lamonica — 18-5-3 (.771).

Meanwhile, back to some other figures, here are Jaime’s picks for the early games Sunday: Bengals over Browns, Ravens over Cowboys, Colts over Jets, Falcons ove Raiders, Buccaneers over Chiefs, Eagles over Lions and her beloved Dolphins (for whom she once was a cheerleader) over Rams.

Because of a previous commitment, your humble correspondent was unable to post her late-afternoon selection until the games were over (as if that’s the reason some folks out there in cyberspace come to this site). Finally, we have her picks and picks. Patience is a virtue — and that may as close to virtuous as some of us tend to get.

Her pick for the night game: Texans over Packers. For the late-afternoon contests, it was 49ers over Giants, Vikings over Redskins, Patriots over Seahawks and Cardinals over Bills.

And, yes, I do realize the order of the photos does not match the order of the printed picks. This is a result of trying to do things in haste. In this case, haste does not make waste. Merely a little confusion trying to pair the picks with the pics.

We can only hope this slight oversight will not diminish the delight of the sight of Jaime. Something says the photo of Jaime in the Ravens outfit — even if it is out of order — was a fitting way to end the early portion of today’s program. Enjoy (and if you don’t enjoy, you might want to seek professional assistance).
