Kate Upton on Cover of SI Swimsuit Issue for 2013

February 9, 2013 @ No Comments

So much for the big reveal of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover model. That news, which was to have occurred on the “Late Show With David Letterman” on his late-night show Monday (Feb. 11), was exposed Friday (Feb. 8), Model Kate Upton, who graced the cover of the 2012 edition, again is featured on the front.

Kate Upton has a nice pair — of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers. She was on the cover in 2012 and again in the edition that comes out next week.

It’s unclear why the pronouncement came Friday and not Monday, when Letterman is to have 10 SI Swimsuit Issue beauties on the show. Something says concerns about winter weather affecting the Northeast may have something to do with the premature release of the cover photo. Hey, any reason is good enough around here.

“We can finally talk about Antarctica!!!!!…Took us 2 months to thaw out” was Upton’s message on Twitter after the .
news was broken.

Brrrrr!

Former SI cover girl Brooklyn Decker (2010) tweeted: “Congratulations Ms.@kateupton !! Making history!”

The most recent model to appear on consecutive covers is Tyra Banks (1996-97, though she shared the honor in 1997). Christie Brinkley appeared on three in a row (1979-81). Elle MacPherson also enjoyed a three-peat (1986-88). Paulina Porizkova was on the cover in 1984 and 1985.

Upton also had a small spot on the 2011 cover for those scoring at home and/or elsewhere.

To those who were not around 49 years ago (Feb. 9, 1964), it’s difficult to explain how incredible this moment in history was. To those who were around and witnessed it and the subsequent success of four lads from Liverpool, no explanation realliy is necessary, is it? It was a Sunday night, much like any other Sunday night spent watching “The Ed Sullivan Show” on a black-and-white television. Until John, Paul, George and Ringo — the Beatles — made their American debut.

Speaking of history (although not quite so ancient), the Bulls prevailed 93-89 Friday night at Utah, where Michael Jordan’s career-ending basket gave them the 1998 NBA title over the Jazz. Of course, that magic moment became slightly diminished by Jordan coming out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards. But at the time, it certainly seemed like an incredible farewell.

Speaking of MJ who will turn 50 on Feb. 17, Los Angeles Lakers reserve forward Antawn Jamison (a fellow former North Carolina Tar Heels standout) said Friday: “I wouldn’t doubt that in the right situation with a LeBron [James] on his team or with a Kobe [Bryant] on this team, he could get you about 10 or 11 points, come in and play 15-20 minutes. “I wouldn’t doubt that at all, especially if he was in shape and injuries were prevented and things of that nature.”

Of course, Jordan would have to give up his ownership stake in the Charlotte Bobcats to do so, so don’t expect him to suit up any time soon.

As has been noted on this site, the Chicago Luvabulls 2012-13 poster will be handed out to fans at the Bulls game on Feb. 11 while supplies last (in no small part because it is difficult to hand out anything after supplies are exhausted) at the United Center.

If things go according to well-conceived plan (well, it was conceived even if it doesn’t strike you as well-conceived), the editorial staff at elliottharris.com will provide photos of the Luvabulls as we lead up to Monday’s game and giveaway. Which means approximately eight members of the dance team per day.

Here is the first offering of lovely ladies (in alphabetical order):
