In need of a hockey fix? Well, this weekend is the Chicago Blackhawks convention, if that helps. And if you aren’t attending the soldout event at the Hilton Chicago but would like to see some of what is going on, Comcast SportsNet will televise the opening ceremonies Friday (July 20) beginning at 5 p.m. Hawks captain Jonathan Toews is scheduled for a live interview after the ceremonies. David Kaplan will host the coverage with Chris Boden and Tracey Myers adding to the coverage. Boden’s efforts will be for “SportsNet Central” at 6:30, 10, 10:30 and midnight; Myers’ will be for CSNChicago.com.

The non-hockey enthusiasts in the audience may be wondering why that news is the first to greet them in today’s post. Well, to put it simply: Taylor Stevens. The non-hockey enthusiasts may be wondering what hockey team Taylor Stevens plays for. Well, she doesn’t. The adult actress is a Toronto Maple Leafs fans, if that helps. She was in Chicago for the Exxxotica Chicago 2012 expo July 13-15 at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. Which, of course, meant that your humble correspondent had to attend the event. Purely to gain her perspective on the 2012 Stanley Cup finals in which she had more camera time than anyone in the Blackhawks organization.
Hey, it’s what some of us think of as work. Or like to think of as work. Taylor, whom we have had the pleasure of interviewing in her previous visits, was gracious with her time. For that — and the accompanying video — we are grateful.
Speaking of Comcast SportsNet (which we were doing before the Taylor Stevens stuff, weren’t we?), here’s hoping Chicago White Sox play-by-play broadcaster Ken “Hawk” Harrelson recovers from the team’s 3-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in time for Friday’s game at Detroit. The abrupt end to the game — a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth — made for a surprisingly quick conclusion to the contest and telecast. It’s unclear whether there were time constraints, whether Hawk was speechless (hey, there’s a first time for everything) or whether whatever he wanted to say couldn’t be said over the air.
* Speaking of speaking, Miami Marlins (and former White Sox) manager Ozzie Guillen offered this gem after his time lost Thursday — and two of three in the series — to the Cubs at Wrigley Field: “[Bleep] Chicago.” No doubt there is a segment in Chicago that would respond in kind to Guillen, even if his Sox did win the 2005 World Series.
If you’re a Chicago Bulls fans, here’s one simple question: What is more exciting — the signing of Vladimir Radmanovic on Thursday or the Luvabulls making an appearance on Friday? OK, no need to answer. This much is clear:
The Luvabulls, Bulls radio analyst Bill Wennington, team ambassador Bob Love and mascot Benny the Bull will join the Luvabulls for a 2 p.m. grand reopening of the Dunkin’ Donuts store at 2337 N. Cicero. The Bulls folks will meet fans and pose for photos. Dunkin’ Donuts will provide Oreo donut and Coolattas samples. Your humble correspondent will try to be there, even if it means arriving fashionably late (though not too late because the event is 3 p.m.).
Speaking of fashion (OK, maybe not), in a never-ending effort (and rarely successful) effort to be fashionable, the editorial staff at elliottharris.com is preparing for a “Fashion Star” casting call. OK, maybe not. But there will be an opening casting call for the NBC program on Sunday (July 22) from noon to 5 p.m. at Macy’s, 111 N. State St.
Posing with lovely Lori Hess is what some of us like to think of as work.
As usual, it was another great “Sports & Torts” show with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on Thursday on talkzone.com. Not necessarily because of those two (who do like to think they are partly responsible for the program’s quality), but because of guests Jerry Coleman and Lori Hess. He is the former big-league ballplayer who still broadcasts some San Diego Padres games. She is the founder of divaexchange.com, which serves as a classified-ads service for figure/fitness/bikini competitors looking to buy or sell outfits, etc.
Because of circumstances beyond our control, the July 19 program will not be available for podcast until Monday (that’s what happens when the show’s producer ends up welcoming his third son into the world). When the podcast is ready, we will be more than happy to let you know. Lori was a great in-studio guest and even provided some sweet-potato treat. Unfortunately for David (and fortunately for his family), his legal work kept him from being an in-studio presence for the show.
