Clarity is a wonderful thing. Partly because it can be so difficult to come by. So today we just might take a look at some things that appear clear. Or unclear.
* It is unclear what is more shocking: that White Sox infield Jeff Keppinger walked with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run in a 5-4 victory Thursday (May 16) against the host Los Angeles, that the Sox have won a season-high three consecutive road games or that Keppinger’s walk (his first in 141 plate appearances) came on only four pitches.
* It is clear that Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose cannot be considered day to day anymore in his anticipated comeback from anterior-cruciate ligament surgery more than a year ago. With the Bulls eliminated from the playoffs on Wednesday, the one-time MVP has to be regarded as season to season.
* It is unclear why the Bulls had Vladimir Radmanovic on the roster. Apparently the only way he would have received more playing time would have been for three teammates — possibly more — fail to show up on game day.
* It is clear that Rose should be ready for the 2013-14 NBA season. In fact, he should be ready for Game 9 of the Chicago Bulls-Miami Heat 2013 best-of-seven series any day now.
* It is clear that the highlight of Thursday night — well, it was for some of us fortunate enough to go there — was being at The Squared Circle. That’s the restaurant that wrestling’s Lisa Marie Varon and her husband Lee own and operate. The establishment — located at 2418 N. Ashland in Chicago (just north of the intersection of Fullerton and Ashland) — had a special guest bartender as part of the evening’s festivities for a viewing party of Impact Wrestling. And not just some special guest. It was ODB, the legendary wrestling figure. Also part of the fun was referee Brian Stiffler in a black-and-white vertically striped shirt (for those who might not recognize him wearing something other than ref attire).
* Speaking of Tara/Lisa Marie, The Squared Circle will have a showing of wunderkind Matt Goldberg’s documentary “Tarafied” that is part of the Cannes Film Festival. Actually, the restaurant will have showings — at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. — on June 8. Among the patrons at Thursday night’s fun was Matt, armed with camera to capture more footage.
* Speaking of wrestling, former WWE Intercontinental Champion and WCW Tag Team Champion Scott Hall has been added to Pro Championship Wrestling’s “Dream Night 12.” The event will be June 15 at the Don Preston Rec Center, 14500 S. Kostner Ave., Modlothian, Ill. Also part of the evening’s activities will be former former WWE superstar Rikishi and former TNA Knockout’s Champion Miss Tessmacher. Doors are to open at 5 p.m. with bell time set for 6 p.m. Tickets ($15) are available at Hell Fire Comics at the Chicago Ridge Mall (708) 423-FIRE or at www.pcwwrestling.net.
