Looking on Bright Side for Bulls, Bears, Sox, Cubs

August 11, 2012 @ No Comments

You want to find a bright side to center Dwight Howard being traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers? A bright side for Chicago Bulls fans and not Lakers fans. Well, the Magic appears to be weaker. But the Philadelphia 76ers, who obtained center Andrew Bynum in the four-team trade, might be more formidable. Well, recuperating Bulls guard Derrick Rose should be healthy before the Bulls face the Lakers in the NBA finals. Of course, who knows what that season that might occur?

Tough call: A photo of any of the players in the Dwight Howard trade or a picture of Playboy Playmate Nikki Leigh. OK, not so tough.

* You want to find a bright side for the Chicago Bears in their quest to unseat the Green Bay Packers for the NFC North division title? Well, the Pack reportedly is set to sign running back Cedric Benson. Benson did not live up to being the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft during his first three season with the Bears; now Bears fans have even more reason to be displeased with the former Texas standout. As if they need an excuse to boo him.

* You want to find a bright side to Chicago White Sox left-hander John Danks being out for the season? Well, he has a brother; and Jordan Danks hit a walkoff home run to beat the visiting Oakland Athletics 4-3 Friday (Aug. 10). Not bad for the first homer of his big-league career. Any chance Jordan could pitch, too?

* You want to find a bright side to making five errors in a baseball game? Keep looking. The Chicago Cubs have five errors in their 20-8 loss Friday to the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field. At least they spread it around with Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro, Josh Vitters, Welington Castillo and Brett Jackson committing the errors. Castro stole his 18th base in the game; the error was his 18th — for those who like numerical coincidences. At this rate, Castro could be a 20-20 guy — although usually that number is not for stolen bases and errors.

*Speaking of Jackson, he struck out two more times (he did walk and score a run) in going 0-for-3. He is batting .118 with 11 strikeouts in 17 at-bats. An incredibly small sample size without a doubt and without much contact. If Jackson plays the Cubs’ 51 remaining games and has 200 at-bats and continues to whiff about 65 percent of the time, he would finish with 141 strikeouts. Of course, logic says that won’t happen. A promising prospect wil either start hitting the ball or finding his way back to Class AAA Iowa way before he reaches 100 strikeouts.

Speaking of “Sports & Torts,” Playboy Playmate Nikki Leigh (May 2012) was on the show several weeks ago and was a wonderful guest — even if she was unable to come into the studio. Here she is in a fresh YouTube video from a photo shoot:

Lisa Marie Varon (known to wrestling fans as WWE’s Victoria and Impact Wrestling’s Tara) is a favorite around here who has not been around here for a while. Fortunately for those of us who enjoy her company, Lisa Marie posted a video on YouTube. One of these days we will catch up to her in person. In the meantime, here is the video:
