Random thoughts while wondering whether Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers or Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will have the better offseason (OK, so it was a light day for thinking and/or wondering):
* The news Monday that Mike Martz is retiring was curious. Not that the former NFL coach, who was offensive coordinator of a St. Louis Rams Super Bowl champion and most recently was offensive coordinator of the Bears (2011), isn’t entitled at age 60 to call it a career. Some Bears fans will tell you it’s the best call he made this season.
* Still speaking of the man who oversaw the “Greatest Show on Turf” with the Rams, chances are you haven’t seen or heard the last from Martz. The likelihood of Martz winding up as a television analyst would seem greater than ever expecting Martz to use a running game as his primary offensive tact.
* Speaking of the Bears, it appears they finally are starting to interview to fill their vacancy at general manager. They interviewd Jason Licht, the New England Patriots’ director of pro personnel, on Monday. Rather than rush into a decision they may ultimately regret, the Bears seem to be taking their making a decision they may ultimately regret.
* The man whom some Bears fans hoped would be coach Lovie Smith’s replacement is off the market. Former Tennessee Titans coach and Bears defensive back Jeff Fisher is set to become the Rams’ coach with a five-year deal. Meaning former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher can rise to the top of the list of candidates as the next Bears coach — if he wasn’t already there.
* Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway says Tim Tebow will go into training camp as the team’s starting quarterback. Most likely not based on his passing proficiency. More likely based on his marketing proficiency and jersey sales.
* Strictly for entertainment purposes, here are some Super Bowl odds from Bovada, (www.Bovada.lv): New England Patriots 6/5, San Francisco 49ers 3/1, New York Giants 3/1, Baltimore Ravens 6/1. Odds on Super Bowl matchups: San Francisco vs. New England 6/5, New York vs. New England 9/5, San Francisco vs. Baltimore 9/2, New York vs. Baltimore 13/2.
OK, enough NFL stuff. How about some videos featuring attractive females:
