There are challenges and there are challenges. Such was the case for today’s effort, which was going to be strictly about football. OK, and adult-entertainment actresses. Then along came Game 6 of the World Series. How can anyone avoid some mention of one of the greatest games in World Series history? Then again, how can some of us pass up the opportunity to run photos and/or video of the aforementioned actress?
And so we find ourselves in a compromising postion, one that addresses both topics. Not to be confused with the fairly non-compromising position that New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski found himself in after posing with Bibi Jones in photos she tweeted last Friday. She was clad in a Patriots jersey with his name on the back; he was shirtless. Now if the attire had been reversed, there might have been a legitimate issue.
Bibi, 20, said in an interview on Boston radio this week:
“Nothing happened. I wish something had, but nothing happened. I asked if I could have some pictures with him and he said, ‘Yeah, wait, put on my jersey.’ I said, ‘OK.’ We were taking pictures. I asked him if I could put it on Twitter because some athletes wouldn’t want that since I do do adult films, and they don’t want to be associated with that. He was really cool with it because I have more Twitter followers than him.”
For some reason (and in all probability not self-induced), Gronkowski apologized Wednesday.
“I didn’t intend anything to hurt the reputation of anyone on the New England Patriots or on behalf of Robert Kraft, and that’s all,” he said. “It was just a simple picture and that’s all. I’m just here to talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers and the big game this weekend.”
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady told a Boston radio station: “I would have guessed there would be pictures of him somehow with his shirt off, posing or something like that. I’m just glad I’m no longer the one people are making fun of on a daily basis.”
Meanwhile, back in St. Louis, where the NFL Rams ought to be hoping the World Series continues for the next month or two so the folks there won’t pay attention to how bad they are:
* Anyone else think Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz looked an awful like Sammy Sosa on the David Freese triple that tied the game in the ninth? With the emphasis on awful.
* Anyone else think with the Cardinals committing three errors and the Rangers two that the Cubs somehow belonged in there, too?
* Anyone else (beside Scott Merkin who covers the Chicago White Sox for mlb.com) think the Rangers should have walked Lance Berkman in the 11th, even though it meant putting the winning run on second base with two outs?
* Anyone else think Matt Holliday can breathe a little easier after being picked off third base and one out?
* Anyone else think Game 6 was a fairly representative microcosm of the Cardinals season — with the bullpen having difficulties, the team rallying, the bullpen having more problems, they team rallying, an unheralded hero (Jake Westbrook, who pitched a scoreless 11th) and the Cardinals overcoming staggering odds to prevail?
* Anyone else think Game 7 will have a tough time measuring up to Game 6? Anyone else think it doesn’t matter?
OK, some Bibi Jones video. You can assess whether it is gratuitous or gratifying. Or possibly both:
