Midweek musings: The way the Miami Marlins appear ready, willing and able to spend money at baseball’s Winter Meetings, someone might think they have discovered the Fountain of Wealth rather than any Fourtain of Youth.
* Speaking of youth (or lack thereof), a 10-year Marlins deal with Albert Pujols could mean a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman means he just might be eligible for some of those senior citizen, early-bird specials by the time his contract is up. Not that there’s a question about his age or anything.
* Now that the Chicago Bulls have released their 2011-12 schedule, it’s time for the Matadors to do the same. Some of us see such action as a public service (and/or warning) regarding the larger-than-life (or at least larger than most guys) dance team that appears with some regularity at the games at the United Center. OK, and some guys who are less than regular, too.
* Speaking of regular guys, Brett Favre … OK. this isn’t going to work out. Never mind.
* The Chicago White Sox trade closer Sergio Santos to Toronto for a minor-league pitcher. As far as understanding the move by general manager Ken Williams, it’s Greek to most around here. Or possibly Latin American.
Speaking of things being Greek to some of us, how about Patricia Kara?
Recommended viewing/listening: Thursday’s “Sports & Torts” on talkzone.com at noon (Chicago time). Not so much for co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris as for the featured female, Patricia Kara. Chicago native Patricia has moved on from her role as one of the suitcase models on the NBC game show “Deal or No Deal” (you may remember as the lovely lady holding suitcase No. 9) to being featured in a fitness video, representing a line of Greek beauty products and co-host for a new music program. A definite Greek goddess, as well as a great guest to have in the studio.
Here is some video from her appearance at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con in August:
Still speaking of beautiful women of Greek descent and who are multi-media threats, Maria Menounos is becoming something of a diva. OK, not really. More like a WWE Diva. The actress/author/television personality will be part of the WWE program featuring a tribute to American troops on Dec. 13 on USA Network and Dec. 17 on NBC.
Maria appeared on “Monday Night Raw” a couple of years ago, so she is not entirely inexperienced.
