Pondering Baseball Numbers and Bikini Figures

April 4, 2013 @ No Comments

The great thing about the first week of the baseball season — other than its mere existence — is looking at the statistics that some players are putting up in the first few games. You know some of the numbers will fade in the 162-game schedule — even if it’s a player on your team. And you know some of the numbers will improve during the course of the season — especially if it’s a player on your team.

A photo of Tyler Flowers or three of Ingrid Romero? Tough call. Not.

So two games into the season, Chicago White Sox fans realize catcher Tyler Flowers will not hit 162 home runs — even if he has hit one in each game. After all, manager Robin Ventura will rest him at some point during the season.

* The Sox will score a run without benefit of a home run. It may take till May for that to happen, but it will happen.

*The Cubs will not finish .500. And certainly not with all their victories coming in shutouts and all their losses coming in shutouts.

* Houston’s Brett Wallace will not strike out 80 percent of the time (as he has done in his first 10 at-bats). Thanks to Houston being in the American League, Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn may have a challenger for most strikeouts this season. Houston has the top (bottom?) five in strikeouts. After Wallace, there is Chris Carter (8), Carlos Pena (6) and Rick Ankiel and Justin Maxwell (5 each). The Astros did set a record for most strikeouts for the first three games with 43.

* In case anyone needs a reminder, the Cubs home opener is scheduled for Monday. In conjunction with that, O’Donovan’s Pub and Restaurant (2100 W. Irving Park Rd.) will celebrate with food and drink specials. Drink specials will include $15 domestic buckets, $3 domestic drafts, $4 Smirnoff lemonade and $5 Bombs. The editorial staff at elliottharris.com, of course, has no idea what any of that means. Nor would it encourage excessive drinking. For food specials, the lunch special there will be a $6 burger with fries and a draft beer.

Bikini champion Ingrid Romero was gracious enough to pose with Elliott Harris at the 2013 Arnold Sports Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

Ingrid Romero is a multi-faceted female. She is an Arnold Classic bikini champion, model, Team Edge owner, co-founder, coach and mother of young twins among her many credits. The list goes on and on.

And so, when your humble correspondent was attending the 2013 Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, the chance to interview Ingrid occurred.

She was busy at the 6 Pack Fitness booth but kind enough to take some time to tape an interview. Let the record show that she was in amazing shape for someone who had given birth to twins in the last year or so.

Heck, she was in great shape for someone who hadn’t given birth to twins. Guess that’s what happens when you watch your diet and exercise.

She has a page on Facebook and also is on Twitter. You can follow her at @ingridromero1.

And here is more with Ingrid:

And with her Team Edge:

If it’s Thursday (and the chances of that seem reasonably good because yesterday was Wednesday — provided that you are reading this on April 4, 2013, or a subsequent Thursday), then it is time for another edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. The interview show is live on Talkzone.com at noon Central time and will feature as its guests baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins and basketball Hall of Fame forward Adrian Dantley.
