Thursday thoughts: Bud Selig reportedly will be asked to stay on as Major League Baseball’s commissioner. If he does, maybe he will donate his annual salary ($22 million-plus) to a Wrigley Field building — or rebuilding — fund. Or for a wing at the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. — devoted to steroid-era players. Nothing quite like having a lasting legacy like that.
* Seeing Chicago Bulls guard John Lucas III cramp up late in the game Wednesday night was somewhat surprising. OK, not all that surprising considering he finished up playing a game-high 45:38 as the replacement for injured Derrick Rose. What was surprising was that Lucas’s legs and not his shooting arm (11-of-28 from the field for a career-high 28 points) was the problem in the 78-64 victory against the Washington Wizards.
* Speaking of the Bulls, their full-figured male dance team the Matadors is comprised of some real heavyweights. In terms of talent, fellas. What else would it be?
* The Chicago Bears’ search for a general manager continues to go on and on. Guess overall team speed isn’t what it used to be. The last Bears situation that took this long was when quarterback Jay Cutler took a seven-step drop on a pass play and tried to find an open receiver. So much for snap decisions.
* Speaking of the Bears, maybe it was an optical illusion, but the fourth-best receiver on any team playing last week in the NFL’s wild-card games sure looked better than the Bears’ No. 1 (whoever that might be).
* A reminder that Playboy Playmate Leola Bell and football great Larry Csonka are the scheduled guests for Thursday’s (Jan. 12) “Sports & Torts” show with David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com. For those unable to tune in at that time, the program will be available on podcast.
Another day, another April Rose video. Sounds good to those of us who are fans:
For those who are fans of the lovely Lariyah Daniels, a little something from her photo shoot:
