White Sox Put Familiar Faces in Coaching Places

November 28, 2012 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: The Chicago White Sox named Harold Baines assistant hitting coach, Bobby Thigpen bullpen coach and Daryl Boston first-base coach Tuesday (Nov. 27). Some of us can only hope the interleague games between the Sox and Cubs will feature a hitting contest between Baines and his Cubs counterpart Rob Deer. Something says former Sox reliever Thigpen still can strike out Deer.

For some reason, Kelly Wilson will be wearing something other than this outfit during her “Sports & Torts” interview.

* The Cubs signed right-hander Scott Feldman to a one-year contract. Meaning once more general manager Jed Hoyer has picked up a player who should be available in a trade slightly after the team is eliminated from postseason possibilities or by July 4, whichever occurs first.

* In need of help for the offensive line, the Chicago Bears signed a Pro Bowler on Tuesday. It will be some comfort to Bears fans to know that rather than Norm Duke or Del Ballard Jr. , the team signed veteran guard/center Andre Gurode.

* Thanks to photographic proof from the camera of Will Byington, there is visual evidence that coyotes have been seen outside Wrigley Field. Not to be confused with sighting inside Wrigley during the season of cougars (beer-drinking variety).

* Marvin Miller, who should be in baseball’s Hall of Fame, died at age 95. Former commissioner Fay Vincent said of the former executive director of the MLB Players Association: “I think he’s the most important baseball figure of the last 50 years.” Commissioner Bud Selig should be ashamed at the omission. One of Miller’s last interviews with on “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. You can link to the interview by clicking here.

Speaking of “Sports & Torts” (and who isn’t?), the anticipation builds for the next show. In that today is Wednesday (provided that you are reading this on Nov. 28 — or a subsequent Wednesday), then we are a day away from another effort in the highly acclaimed (in the Spada and Harris households, among other reported locales) interview program. The guests on the Nov. 29 show are Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti, actress/singer Marla Gibbs and former Chicago Luvabulls dancer Kelly Wilson. Kelly recently participated in her first bikini competition and took home a second-place trophy. Very impressive.

Here are a few minutes with Kelly (not part of her “Sports & Torts” interview):

Speaking of cheerleaders/dancers (and even if we weren’t), here is “Call Me Maybe” from ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” finale show Tuesday:

And who doesn’t want to watch a little “Gangnam Style” with former football star Emmitt Smith:

And former gymnast Shawn Johnson struts her stuff:

Another reason why the Chicago Bears need to restore the Honey Bears as part of the fabled franchise’s legacy: swimsuit calendars. Here is video for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ cheerleader calendar. If the Jaguars can do it, the Bears surely could. Oh, the humanity!
