Te’o’s Time in 40 Produces Untimely Concerns

February 26, 2013 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while wondering how much today’s weather — with anticipated snow — will be like that on Opening Day for the Chicago Cubs and/or White Sox or whether the weather actually will be better than early April’s.

Brittany Ramsey figures to be a top figure competitor at the Arnold Sports Festival.

* Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o turned in a disappointing 4.82 time in the 40-yard dash Monday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Of course, he was slowed by having his dead non-existent girlfriend Lennay Kekua on his back during his dash.

* Derrick Rose made a two-handed dunk before the Bulls’ game Sunday at Oklahoma City. Not sure of the significance to attach to that. He landed on his non-surgically repaired knee. So any reasonable conclusions about his return to the team — this season or next? — will continue to be up in the air.

* Speaking of injured Bulls players, reserve forward Taj Gibson is expected to miss a couple of weeks with a sprained left MCL. More painful than that injury is the Bulls’ lack of frontcourt depth.

* Still speaking of injuries, Chicago White Sox left fielder Dayan Viciedo was hit by a pitch around his left elbow and left for a pinch-runner in 9-9 tie with the San Francisco Giants. He said he was OK. Sox left-hander Donnie Veal slipped while catching a popped bunt and departed in pain. Those of us who have slipped on ice can empathize — even if we would like to do so in Arizona’s weather rather than in Chicago’s in February.

* Still speaking of injured left-handers, Dontrelle Willis made his Chicago Cubs debut in a Cactus League. He lasted seven pitches that included a walk as he took the loss in a 7-6 Los Angeles Dodgers victory. The Cubs called his early exit “shoulder tightness.” Willis called it a “minor setback.” If that assessment proves wrong, he might have to call it a career.

OK, so you’re not especially a hockey fan. In which case the Blackhawks incredible start (no losses in the first 19 games of the lockout-shortened NHL season) might not be of much interest. For you — and even for those with interest in ice hockey — here is the tune played after the Hawks score a goal “Chelsea Dagger” by the Fratellis. Judging by the video, it is not particularly hockey-oriented (as if that’s a problem?):

The Arnold Sports Festival is coming up this week, starting Thursday (Feb. 28) in Columbus, Ohio. The event attracts competitors and patrons from across the globe. Among those who plan to be there is Brittany Ramsey of suburban Chicago. She will be competing in the Figure Class B event. Which seems reasonable justification to run some video featuring her (as if we need an excuse to do that):

Speaking of the Arnold Sports Festival, here’s one guy who enjoys being part of the festivities:

Did Andy Haman just mention Jamie Eason? Here she is:

There’s always room for some non-gratuitous videa:
