Thursday Tidbits, NFL Style

September 22, 2011 @ No Comments

Carolina Panther rookie Cam Newton and New England Patriots veteran Tom Brady are the first NFL quarterbacks to pass for 400 yards or more in consecutive contests. They did so in the first two weeks of this season. In that Week 3’s games are rapidly approaching, that means they could become the first NFL QBs to pass for 400 or more yards in three consecutive games. Such is the case, even if Week 3’s game would be slowly approaching.

Newton also is the first rookie with 300-yard games in consecutive contests. Which again means he could be the first with three in a row. The editorial staff at elliottharris.com loves it when the statistical side of things becomes more logic than math (math being one of the reasons some of us ended up in typing journalism for a living).

Gisele Bunchen: life in the fast lane

And, yes, rather than run a photo of Brady, the photo staff at elliottharris.com decided to go with a picture of his wife, model Gisele Bundchen. Which is far less surprising than Newton’s performances.

In case you don’t think Gisele is newsworthy, guess again. The Brazilian beauty was stopped for speeding on Saturday. She was not ticketed.

“He [the Massachusetts state trooper] did give her a warning and let her go on her way,” state police spokesman David Procopio told the paper. “He reminded her that the speed limit on the Cape is 55, not 65 as it is in other parts of the state.

“That trooper stopped 25 cars that day, five were given warnings, including Gisele,” he added. “The other 20, who were doing more egregious things, were given tickets. She got no special treatment. If he stopped Mrs. Rex Ryan for the same thing, she also wouldn’t have gotten a citation.”

Well, unless perhaps the Patriots were playing the Ryan-coached New York Jets. :)

Yashi Rice

Speaking of Hall of Famers, Gale Sayers — the legendary Bears standout running back and return man for the Chicago Bears — is scheduled to appear on Thursday’s ”Sports & Torts” program at noon (Chicago time) on www.talkzone.com.

Also scheduled to appear on the interview show is Yashi Rice, sister of former NFL player Simeon Rice. She also is a football player, although in a league far different from the NFL. She is a member of the Lingerie Football League Chicago Bliss and sang the national anthem at the team’s 2010 opener. Yashi has some serious skills on the football field and in the music world. You can check her out on Facebook at Yahshi Yashi.
