Finally, a story involving Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher that is worthy of serious consideration by the media: Jenny McCarthy told People.com on Thursday (Aug. 16) she and Urlacher no longer are a couple. A couple of what? Well, that’s up to everyone’s own assessment. Gee, if those two crazy kids (OK, maybe more crazy than kids) can’t make it, what hope is there for everybody else?
* Speaking of things Bears-related, the team apparently has opted not to accept casino advertising because to do so would be at odds with the image the team wants to project. Speaking of odds, maybe the Bears don’t want to send gamblers to casinos rather than have them wager on NFL games.
* Still speaking of things Bears-related, former defensive lineman Steve McMichael is set to run for the mayor of Romeoville, Ill. If nothing else, “Mongo” should be adept at tackling issues.
* Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer appeared on “Chicago Tribune Live” with host David Kaplan on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and said there is no specific year you can point to when the team will be contenders. Understandable. He doesn’t want to put pressure on anyone, including the front office. Maybe next time he’s on CTL he could point to a decade when the Cubs will be contenders.
* Speaking of the Cubs, if they are working to extend anything with shortstop Starlin Castro, shouldn’t it be his focus during games rather than a long-term contract?
* You have to admire the way Robin Ventura is managing the Chicago White Sox — although it’s unclear what the signal is for his batters to hit home runs. It is fairly clear that if they can hit five homers in a game (as they did Thursday in a 7-2 victory at Toronto), they will have no problem winning the American League Central.
As promised, here is some more video from Wizard World Chicago Comic Con 2012 that was held Aug. 9-12 at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill.
Today’s lovely lady is actress Cindy Morgan. You may remember her from “Caddyshack” and “Tron” and more.
Always delightful to be with, Cindy was at the A&R Collectibles booth with proprietor Roger Dewey. They were kind enough to let your humble correspondent spend some quality time with them.
Cindy signed photographs and memorabilia (including Tron-inspired dishes) and posed for photos with the folks who attended the fun event. If there was a more friendly celebrity at Comic Con who connected with her fans, I don’t know who it was.
If you like the dishes she was signing, you can check them out at A&R Collectibles.
And, yes, there still is more video from Comic Con to come in the not-too-distant future.
The video-research department at elliottharris.com stayed busy (or so the story goes) and came up with these random offerings:
Here is wrestling’s Brooke Adams, aka Miss Tessmacher:
And here’s the latest episode of “Sex House” from the fine folks at The Onion:
Another edition of “Sports & Torts” is in the books (or wherever such things go). The Aug. 16 program co-hosted by David Spada and Elliott Harris featured interviews with Amber Podell (Miss Illinois United States 2012) and former Houston Oilers defensive lineman Elvin Bethea. The highly acclaimed show (it certainly is in the Spada and Harris households — and rumor has it, even elsewhere), which airs live on Thursdays on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time, is available on podcast. You can access it by clicking here.
