Weekend wondering: Whether the Wrigleyville McDonald’s property that the Ricketts family purchased this week will becone an oversized vegetable garden if the Chicago Cubs sign vegetarian/oversized free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder. At the right price for the right number of years, the left-handed slugger could be the Cubs’ Fielder of dreams.
* The Chicago Bears cut receiver Sam Hurd, who was arrested Wednesday night for charges of dealing durgs. No word whether Hurd took the white lines from the Halas Hall practice field with him.
* Vanessa Bryant has filed for divorce from Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant after more than 10 years of marriage. If two swell, humble, unspoiled kids can’t make it in this world, what chance is there for the rest of us? Then again, maybe she figured she had all the rings she was going to get from staying together (not to be confused with straying together).
* Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary testified in court that he saw Jerry Sandusky in a sexual situation with a young boy in 2002. Of course, this comes after initially having said so and then backing off what he told a grand jury. It would appear McQueary’s only chance of having another job as an assistant football coach would be if interim Penn State coach Tom Bradley lands a job — other than with the Nittany Lions.
* Barry Bonds receives essentially a slap on the wrist in his court case. Here’s hoping the punishment — or lack thereof — doesn’t give the former San Francisco Giants slugger a big head. OK, make that a bigger head.
In a quest for video of Playboy Playmate Crystal McCahill (a favorite of this site who has chatted with Elliott Harris about the Chicago Blackhawks and other sports-related topics) participating in a PETA protest Dec. 15 in Chicago, the visual enhancement staff at elliottharis.com came up empty. THe search, however, was not fruitless. There was some video from a photo shoot for PETA in Germany. While those who do not speak German might have trouble understanding each and every word, chances are more than a few in the audience still will enjoy the video:
Speaking of PETA photo shots, that does remind your humble correspondent of one held last year in suburban Chicago that featuerd members of the Lingerie Football League’s Chicago Bliss. Again, as purely a public service, here is that video:
As long as we are talking about public services, here is one that just might prove the adage that it is better to give than to receive. Of course, one might suppose it just might matter what one is giving and/or receiving. Anyway, the Admiral Theatre in Chicago is doing its best to collect toys for youngsters. Not your usual toy drive, if the accompanying photo and description are any indication.
