World Peace? Not in our lifetime. Well, certainly as far as ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” goes. On Tuesday night’s first elimination show of Season 13, newly named Metta World Peace (he used to be Ron Artest) was given the boot. Or the soft shoe. Or whatever they give dancers who don’t survive the cut.
World Peace’s departure meant television personality Nancy Grace will be around for at least another week.
Heavens to Murgatroyd!
Which seems about right because World Peace’s partner on the dance floor was Petra Murgatroyd, who was making her first DWTS appearance.
“Peta was great,” World Peace told the TV audience. “I had a great time.”
He also had the low score (14 total from the judges) for his cha-cha.
Judge Len Goodman called his effort “all sizzle and no sausage.”
Which seems slightly strange for a guy who has been known to be somewhat of a hot dog in his basketball career.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night, World Peace said, “I was just expecting the judges to see the effort and the entertainment.”
Now, the Los Angeles Lakers veteran can join his fellow NBA pros in wondering when the league’s lockout will end. Something says he will have plenty of time to watch DWTS before training camp will open.
Speaking to media after being eliminated, World Peace said, “I really didn’t want to leave the last impression on TV that I was upset and sad. The scoring was right. I messed up a lot. I couldn’t relax.”
Of all the athletes who have appeared on the show (Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward was last season’s winner), none has exited so soon.
“Football players do a lot of foot drills,” World Peace said. “They do ladders. They have four seconds to be quick, explosive and fast. Basketball players, we can rest when we want. We take big steps on our heels. Football players are on their toes. It is no coincidence that football players go on.”
And one NBA player merely is gone.
