Midweek musings: Chicago White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy (5-1) gave up two runs on five hits with zero walks and six strikeouts in seven innings Tuesday in a 4-2 victory over the host Minnesota Twins. He is 4-0 with a 2.10 earned-run average in his last five outings, all quality starts. Among all big-league teams, the Sox are tied for sixth with 23 quality starts. Among the teams the Sox are tied with in that category: the Cubs. Given both teams’ records, maybe someone needs to redefine “quality.”

* If you think the only reason to run the Peavy item was to justify running a photograph of 2013 Playboy Playmate of the Year Raquel Pomplun, the editorial and photo staffs at elliottharris.com would like to remind you that there is no need to justify including such visual enhancements. So there.
* Speaking of the Sox and such, for what it’s worth (and at this point of the season, it may not be a whole lot — although these folks tend to know what they’re talking about), the Cubs (16-23) have a better chance for a postseason appearance this season than do the White Sox (16-21). So say the number crunchers at coolstandings.com. The Cubs have a 10 percent possibility (2 percent for the division title and 8 percent for a wild card), while the Sox are are 8.2 (2.6 and 5.6). We will check back later in the season to revisit all this.
* Still peaking of baseball, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo — with his seven-year, $41 million deal that could be two years longer for a $70 million total — can be assured of generational wealth. He spoke to that when he met the media Monday and talked about security for his children and grandchildren, who quite likely will be growing up why dad/grandpa is the 21st century equivalent of Ernie Banks — meaning a true talent who never sniffed a World Series crown of his own.
* The thoughts of the Bulls season being over (if the team loses Game 5 Thursday at Miami) is almost too much to contemplate. Not so much because we did not see Derrick Rose this season, but because we no longer will see the Luvabulls this season. In terms of being a championship team, the Luvabulls are nearer to the top than the actual basketball-playing squad. The Bulls can only dream about the depth the Luvabulls have when it comes to talent.
