Miley Cyrus Has MJ’s Number as Her Musical Number

September 25, 2013 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: Miley Cyrus and Michael Jordan? Huh??? Nothing romantic. Merely musical. Whew! The singer has a new tune/music video with plenty of Bulls-themed attire (although nothing that would completely cover her body). “23” is the name of the number as well as MJ’s number (and, yes, we remember he did wear 45 for a brief while after he made his return from playing baseball — and some of remember when 45s also were those small records that you could play on record players back in the day). What all this has to do with anything is beyond the comprehension of the music-appreciation department at this site. Well, other than it serves as a rationalization for running her photo and music video. As if you didn’t know. As if rationalization is needed.

What’s Miley Cyrus doing around here? Just about anything she wants.

* Speaking of numbers, how about 4. Or maybe 186. The first is the number of times White Sox slugger Adam “All of Nothing” Dunn struck out in four at-bats in a 5-4 loss to the Indians in Cleveland. The 186 is the total of his strikeouts this season. Meaning maybe manager Robin Ventura rested Dunn recently more to avoid reaching 200 than for any better reason. For those hoping Dunn can reach that number, the Sox still have five games left. All he has to do is whiff 14 times, which he is capable of doing in four games. So don’t give up hope, Sox fans.

* Speaking of Dunn, he is 7-for-59 (.119) in September. Maybe when the Sox close out the season at home, his tun as he approahs te plate to bat can be “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

Well, it has been a while since any star performer wore a No. 23 Bulls outfit.

* Speaking of bad numbers, the Sox have the worst road record in the American League at 27-53. The good news (hey, it’s all in how you look at things) is they have only one more road game. The not-so-good news? It’s against the Indians, who lead the season series 16-2.

* Still speaking of numbers, the Cubs lost to Pittsburgh 8-2. Meaning the Cubs are 30-50 at Wrigley Field this season. That’s the most home defeats in team history. The good (?) news is they have one more contest at Wrigley before ending the season against the division-leading Cardinals in St. Louis.

* The Sox lost on a two-run, two-out home run by Jason Giambi, the oldest player in big-league history to hit a walkoff homer. Also getting old is Sox reliever Addison Reed with blown saves. He has eight, tied for the second-most in the American League. In case Sox fans were hoping for a league leader — or something close to on — in some category.
