Bears Not Playing Till Monday = Music to My Ears

Sunday smorgasbord: A Sunday without a Chicago Bears game (it will be Monday night vs. visiting Dallas) means it will take some imagination to avoid chores that you’ve been avoiding. For some of us (OK, for me), it will take some imagination to find a reason not to concentrate on writing some — if not all — of the 2013 holidays tunes that appears every December. For those keeping score at home (or elsewhere), this will be the 14th annual edition of holiday tunes. One of these years we might add a video version of the songs, but something says we better watch out (in fact, we better not pout or cry) before attempting that.

Allison Papp is a colorful personality, even in black-and-white.

* Everybody (OK, with the exception of Buckeyes fans and/or gambling types) had to be thrilled with Michigan State’s 34-24 victory ove Ohio State for the Big Ten Conference title Saturday in Indianapolis. I know one disappointed person is model/actress Allison Papp. I also know Allison will be on the Dec. 12 edition of “Sports & Torts” on Talkzone.com. There will be more mentions of her presence as the week progresses. And a reminder: Having your own web site means never having to say you’re sorry (sorry, listening to some music while ~~being massively creative~~ typing led to hearing the theme from “Love Story”).

* Speaking of college football championship contests, Auburn University defeated the University of Missouri 59-42 for the Southeastern Conference title in Atlanta. As a Missouri alumnus, I never thought I would live to see Mizzou play in the SEC title game. Mainly because when I was in school, the Tigers were in the Big Eight Conference. And after a disastrous first year in the SEC, I wondered what Missouri was doing by joining the league. So congratulations to he Tigers — Auburn and Missouri — for providing a memorable moment.

* One of the great benefits of watching the football is that it allowed some of us to avoid seeing the Chicago Bulls lose at home to the Detroit Pistons 92-75. Luol Deng sat out the game because of injury. Which did little to help the team’s offene that struggles even with him in the lineup. His absence also doesn’t make other teams’ hearts grow fonder if they are contemplating making a deal for the veteran forward.

* So the Bulls can beat a top team (Miami on Thursday) but loses to some of the bad teams in the NBA. Which pretty much describes most NBA teams. Maybe if the Bulls played fewer bad teams and more good ones (but only if they played as lifelessly and disinterested as the Heat appeared to be vs. them).
